Show me one--just one--preseason "analyst" that had Iowa winning 8/9/10 games (pre-bowl) this season. Just one. Good Lord, in August people wondered if we would even HAVE a "passing attack".
As tired as everyone is of "poor coaching", I am equally tired of the "We-have-9-win-talent" argument. NOBODY who saw this team practice thought we had 9-win talent last August.

Not trying to argue with you, but doesn't this argument have everything to do with coaching? I get the "poor coaching" argument and see your point with regards to the coaches getting everything they can out of the players, but at the same time isn't it also on the coaches for putting a team together that no one saw this team winning 8/9/10 games?
I get that the coaches want to win and are doing everything and getting the most out of their players. The problem lies in either the players simply aren't good enough, we simply aren't bringing in the right guys for the system we play, or another system needs to be implemented to play to our strengths. Unfortunately this comes back to coaching/recruiting/personnel management and how the program is structured from the top down. If we find ourselves in a position in which questions regarding whether or not we'll even have a passing attack, or searching for one "analyst" predicting we'd win 8 or more games then, in my opinion, the program is struggling and change is needed.

You take that back. Listen, pal, he may cheer Nerd U because he lives in teh same town and wants to root for the local boys when he attends games. But he has killed millions of brain cells and “spilled beer” on perfectly good jeans while tailgating and supporting his Hawks in IC.
So give it a rest.

But again, which is it? The system? Recruiting? Coaching? Execution? For this year, anyway. But in 2015? NO credit to coaching, all about CJ bailing Kirk out, or a weak schedule, or OTHER teams making mistakes. And lest one forgets, who saw 12-0? Frankly, who had Iowa playing in Indianapolis? And did anyone end that season saying, "Boy, Iowa's 2011 and 2012 recruiting classes sure lived up to their billing".
Point is, the bar keeps moving, the standards keep being re-written. Why weren't we seen being a 9/10-win team? Graduations, defections, injuries, etc. Anyone who has EVER thought of Iowa as a program that "reloads" and never has to "rebuild" is delusional, or simply lying in order to support the moving standards. Having been at Iowa during the early Fry years--and it was a great time to be there (1980-1985)--I am continually amazed at "memories" many claim to have, given the high levels of inaccuracy in said "memories".

I know there are other Ferentz's in the succession line, but there has to be a way to avoid a travesty like that.

It's not indicative of a healthy program with an 18 year coach. If it were a one year aberration. We've been in an aberration for the most part since the 2009 season. Each year a different symptom of a greater problem. At least he's mobile.

Absolute dumbest post that’s ever graced this board.
Maybe you were not at this year's Purdue game. I have been to 270+ games there and that game was the worst cold weather game I have ever been to. Brutally cold wind chill and there were still 60000 on senior day.
The fans even did not enter the stadium until the last second before kickoff. And of course many left early.
Too bad the OC seemed to not be ready to coach and make big decisions in that game as in it didnt look like they were prepared to strike quick against a blitz they should have known was coming.

I'm glad we won, but at the same time to me this season was a let down for the most part. It just seemed so frustrating and up and down. I have never been a fan of the Pin Stripe Bowl. The stadium looked half empty, beyond freezing cold, the players slipping all over the place because the field was like an ice rink. I'm glad the season is now over, but I'm not expecting much for next years team. I've lost faith in Kirk and Brian I thought was a terrible choice for OC after what he showed this season. This was a clear case of a dad giving his son a job he didn't deserve.
I get that this season was not exactly what we hoped for, but honestly, did you think that we would destroy Nebraska, come from 10 points down at ISU to win in OT, stun the nation in a 31 point blowout of The Ohio State University? I understand the frustration of the NW, Michigan State losses, the pain of 66 yards against Wisconsin, and the outright stupidity of the Purdue loss, but.....Boston College was not a pushover, and the team did not give up, and nor did the coaching staff, after an abysmal 1st half. In all, as a longtime Hawkeye fan, I am reluctantly optimistic about what is to come in the next couple years, and if you aren't, so be it.
