Official: Byrd to S. Carolina

Winning is absolutely the most important thing, but my contention is that the way the plays are called may impact the style of recruits you pick up, no?

I agree with this, however I also think it is very easy for the Iowa coaches or any other team that runs a more Pro style of O to counter with coming to Iowa will make your transition to an NFL O that much easier because you don't see any of those rinky dink spread O's in the NFL.

Look I think the type of O or D that a college team runs is at least a part of the reason why a kid would choose to come to a school, however I think it is a small part in the overall picture.

I can certainly understand why someone would question bringing Byrd in. Regardless of how well playing in a pro-style O may prepare you for the NFL, our receivers do not have a historical track record of NFL success. NFL receivers come from the Big 12, SEC, ACC, Pac-10, and Michigan (an overwhelming majority of the time). And to bring in an elite prospect with considerable speed does not mesh well with a game where we really didn't show much.

The point is, winning is not the most important thing for a lot of guys. They want to go to the NFL. Now the teams that win have a tendency to do that, but an elite WR isn't going to look at Iowa and say: THAT'S where I need to be.

You do realize that South Carolina only has ONE NFL WR correct? Why are some of you thinking that South Carolina is a hot bed of NFL WR???? DUMB!

Overall, Iowa has almost twice as many players in the NFL 30-17 than South Carolina. Do people even look things up before they post things?

The Michigan WR coach is now our coach... he has made more NFL players than ONE!

Bad choice... but at 5' 9" and 155 lbs... perhaps the B10 wasn't a good idea.

The only thing that frustrates me about Iowa football this year is that dumb loss to Ariz. As far as the PSU game, it was very clear that KF knew that PSU was incapable of sustaining a drive against the Iowa defense. So, why not just run the clock with run/right and run/left and burn it away and get the victory??? Mission accomplished. If that was the reason why you lose a recruit then that recruit is better off at a S. Carolina or any other school for that matter. Don't forget that Iowa has one of the best receiver coaches in the country. There are plenty of reasons for a receiver with speed to burn to come to Iowa.

Like I said, the SEC is one of the best places to go for a guy with speed to burn. I'm not saying that we wouldn't mold him into a very good receiver. But his visit didn't show him much as far as how we utilize our weapons on the outside, where as he's got Spurrier at SC.
