Offensive Positives from NW Game

If we had the exact same record over 16 years with top 20 offenses and bottom 1/2 defenses is that better?

To me it would be more fun to watch, yes ( I'd want the D to be at least average, though- put up some fight ).

But, as fans we're obviously free to be happy with whatever style we prefer, win lose or tie. There are no right or wrong answers as to offense-heavy, defense-heavy, or balanced.

But as the HC, it should be KF's job to make both units "all they can be".

Look at LSU. Up until this year they, like Iowa, have relied on a stingy D and conservative O. And they've had lots of W's. But, losing to Saban has meant they usually fall short, so this year they hired an NFL guy to run the O. So far it seems to be working pretty well, and they're still pretty good on D- a better O didn't completely ruin that.

I understand LSU recruits at a higher level than the Hawks, so it's not apples to apples, but it speaks to my point of coaches addressing their team's weak link.

Watch what the Iowa "counter" play does to the LB's at 13:17 in the above video (Will [weak side] LB especially). The need for additional variety to the running attack is apparent.

The offense has underachieved for sure but at the end of the day we are 6-2 and rated top 20 in the country. Our goal to win the west is still achievable. Maybe the offense will end up being our demise, but overall I think we have a pretty good football team.

I agree that Iowa is a pretty good football team at 6-2 and rated top 20 in the nation. I see nothing wrong with viewing the season as a success up to this point while looking at the big picture. That said, I think if you break that big picture down I think there's reason to be concerned (and disappointed) with what we've done offensively this year.

I'm not one play the moral victory card and am ecstatic that we're still in the hunt to win the west, but I also feel that if our offense could have done a bit more we'd be in the driver seat and our game in Madison wouldn't be "do or die". I simply don't think it's about people wanting to see this team fail or waiting/hoping they fail, but rather fans who are passionate about a football team being realists. I guess that puts me in the happy things are going well, but also wanting to see change crowd.
