Offensive Positives from NW Game

Quoting from Jack Bacon's article from yesterday on HN: "Tracy, who practices at all receiver positions, filled in for Smith at the “X” spot on Saturday"

Wasn't it recently disclosed that Martin wouldn't replace Smith because he doesn't practice at the "X" spot?

You've got a true freshman, who came to Iowa as a prospective running back, getting reps at all receiver positions, and an alleged 4 star receiver not getting the same treatment.

Did the Fighting Ferentzs' think there would never be an injury at the receiver position?

Did OM punk the hell out of Michigan and anybody else that recruited him?

What is really going on inside Fort Kinnick?

There's history here - >= 4* position players get benched at Iowa. AJE and Martin are just the latest casualties of how Ferentz coaches talent.

Well, the good news is - it was probably our best offensive performance of the year. The bad news is - that was probably our best offensive performance of the year.

NW has a legit defense and we did some good things. Our o-line is definitely still struggling, though. Hopefully, they can continue to get better.

There were some positives from the Northwestern game in my estimation. The tight end position was utilized and LaPorta looks like he has earned some more playing time. Goodson got more touches and the running backs had better yardage. No penalties at critical points in a drive. There is still a long ways to go but the best effort of the last five.

KF love affair with milking the clock just baffles me. After that LaPorta catch that was eventually overturned, Why can't we get to the line and snap it.? Iowa cannot or refuses to play any kind of hurry up, up tempo. Even if it was for 1 series? Just to maybe get the opponent to see something different? Maybe make them burn a time out? Anything? Slowest moving team in the country. Eddie and Dolph were baffled at the end of the half that we didnt go for points. Eddie said we just let teams hang around and that will bite you. Gawd!!

Tyrone Tracy isn’t a true freshman though. Nice try

You should pace yourself.

There's a bye this week, you know.

Plenty of time for meaningless stats in the days ahead..

The only thing that needs "pacing" is your denial. I've never seen such crying and whining over a 20 point conference win before. If Iowa plays good old fashioned boring as shit offense vs Wisconsin and doesn't commit a turnover, the Hawks will likely win. If the Hawks play wide open like ISU on Saturday and throw it 62 times for 382 yards, but turn it over like ISU, they will lose. Would you be happy then, play some great offense and lose?

Anybody here heard of “reading keys”? That is what defensive players are taught, even NW’s.

The last time they went to Madison, the Hawks did indeed play that kind of offense, and they won turnovers 4-3. I don't remember them winning, though...

And since this year I'm expecting another L with little to no help from the offense,

Yes, great offense would be better than shitty offense. I guess I'm funny that way.

I'm wondering if you even like it when Iowa wins. When was the last time you actually posted something positive about a win on here anyway?

I love it when the hawks win but the offense hasn’t given me much to cheer about since Middle Tennessee

you can pick at details...or go for the larger meaning. Which you choose speaks volumes...
When you choose ignore the details it makes me less inclined to believe your narrative.

I was critical of the Martin situation earlier this week, but I’ve come back on that stance a bit. It was reported that he practices at two WR positions, it just happened that he didn’t practice at the X position where Smith plays. Remember he’s only been here a limited amount of time (the Tracy point is here becuase he’s been here over a year and had more time to learn the spots).

Could Martin be the real deal? Absolutely. But is it possible that he’s overhyped? Yes it is.

At the end of the day there is a certain portion of posters on this board that are going to bitch no matter what.

If we played Drake this weekend and only won like 9-6 you would be happy with that?

That isn’t what is happening tho. People are pissed cause we didn’t do great offensively vs Good defenses. We have rolled up good offensive number vs the weaker D’s

Agreed. No reason not to replace Nico with Martin after the third drop.

It’s a yes or no question . Purdue does not have a great defense . There were quarters of play against Miami Ohio and Rutgers we failed to score a TD . These are legitimate gripes .
