Offensive Line Preview

Not false, in 2011 Nolan Macmillan got hurt and Brandon stepped in. He played well too. In 2012 he was a difference maker. The success that Iowa had early in the season running the ball was in large part due to him. Dalton's expectations are not that high but sure he can be a good back up. Having more depth is a good thing.

No he didn't. No he wasn't. No it wasn't. No he can't. No it isn't.

Another lineman is stepping up and could push for a 2nd team tackle spot.

Dalton Ferguson from Solon is a big 6'4" 310lb redshirt freshman tackle. He is not only big, but he carries the weight well. In high school he was an all state offensive lineman. He lettered in track, baseball and basketball. He has looked impressive in fall practices.

I think he also got participation trophies, which is a bonus.

We had a difference maker in '12? Difference being 4 wins instead of.....

You're losing some skill Nick. Dissappointing.

Cole Croston continues his improvement. This morning he was practicing with the first team. That is good to see a third tackle emerge at that level.

Croston on the first team is a little bit concerning because it most likely means, based on the comments from Ferentz after the kids day practice, that Boone Myers is really struggling. We were already going into the season very green and untested and the coaches first option at left tackle is having trouble between the ears.

As a result I'm not sure I'd call that a "third tackle emerging".

Cole is a 4th year junior. He knows the system and techniques well. He has worked his tail off to gain the size and strength needed for the position. Now that he has done that it is good to see him competing for a spot. Iowa is very successful when a Croston starts.

Iowa is 21-6 with a Croston starting on the offensive line. That is not so bad imo.

Wrong and wrong.

Very troubling at this point in camp that Croston is with the first team. Myers must be really struggling.

So well that a walk on RS SO was the coaches choice to start at LT. Look, he (and every other FBS/FCS offensive lineman) probably did work hard to gain size and strength and he still wasn't the first choice for either tackle position. I hope the kid outperforms his practice ability, but you can't ignore what's happened thus far.

Wow...I realize this is what you do and how you do it and all, but that's a reach even for your schtick.
