Off Topic - Kansas?

I was looking through the scores from around college basketball last night and umm Kansas lost to Kansas State and now sits at 6-4 in Big 12 play. Is this the year they finally don't win or tie as conference champs? I believe their streak currently sits at 14 years in a row. The next closest streak is I think 6 for Gonzaga.

Looking at the remaining schedules of the 5 teams within 1.5 games of the lead, I'd say Baylor has the toughest schedule. They have road games with Texas, TT, ISU, KSU, and Kansas.

KSU has it tough as well with their next 2 games are at Baylor and Texas, and have to go to Kansas later plus have home games with ISU and Baylor.

IMO, these 2 teams' conference records can be attributed to their early schedule, feasting on the bottom of the league.

ISU, KU, and TT have the best path, both with only 1 road game left with a team with a winning record and 2 home games with teams with winning records. ISU and TT happen to play in Ames on the last game of the season. Could be interesting. TT does have to go to KU, and ISU has to go to KSU, all tough games to win.

I think it is. IMO Iowa St looks like the best team in the conference right now. Next Saturday at KSU and the following Tuesday against Baylor will determine their fate. The rest of their games should be wins.

I could see WV giving them a game because they have a great coach and its at home but their team isn't anywhere near normal WV level under Huggins.

If this is the main reason that Texas punted Rick Barnes than they weren't very Smart, and they got that they deserved.

Tennessee says hello, and thank you very much!

He definitely landed smoothly at Tennessee. I think it was his last 4 years that did him in. He posted an under .500 conference record, didn't finish in the AP top 25, and failed to make a run in the NCAA's past the round of 32 while going 1-3 in the tournament during that stretch. That and the hot coaches at the time in Shaka Smart and Gregg Marshall were both rumored to have interest in the position. Turns out Shaka is probably on the hot seat already.

With no inside game once again...3s fall ISU looks great. Clank and different story. Same old tune.

I think they're weak at the bottom without a clear cut top tier team. KU, ISU, TTU and KSU are all legit. I can't figure out Baylor.

Here's the teams ranked outside of the top 80 from the power 5 schools (excluding Pac 12 because they are awful). They all have weak teams towards the bottom. One could argue the Big 12 is actually the best of the weak having no teams drop below the 80s. They definitely lack a clear top tier team or I guess what I would consider a top 10 team.

Actually not true. WV and OK State are struggling compared to normal but rest of the league has been pretty solid according to the computers. They do lack a top 10 team though.

Sure, the data is in their favor, but Iowa beat Iowa State this year, so that's what I'm basing my objective commentary on. They'd all be playing for fourth place, at best, in the Big Ten this year.

Was fortunate enough to attend the Maui Classic when Hawks were last there along with Texas. Attended the pre-tourny dinner with teams and coaches. Rick Barnes was very entertaining and the most likeable of the bunch. Have had a soft spot for him ever since.

On a side note we had just gotten settled in and were sipping on a drink in the hotel lounge decked out in our Iowa garb and a guy walks over and buys us a round. He introduces himself as Wayne Duke (ran tourney at time) while pointing to his Iowa ring and says this is why the Hawks are here. :) Louisville was staying in same motel and we kept bumping into Pitino in the hallway who the Hawks ended up playing. He would nod on the way by but after Hawks beat em it became a look of "you POS get out of my life!". He looked like even more of a snake in person. Gotta admit that Tourny was an Alfraud highlight as Hawks stole the show and couldn't have been much more fun, other than if woulda beat Roy boy in the finals...

Playing Louisville, Texas and North Carolina back to back to back will certainly help your RPI!

That was one of Pierre Pierce's finest hours as a Hawkeye. Big time clutch plays against Louisville and Texas. Unfortunately he would (deservedly) be gone only two months later.

You may be right about all of them perhaps fighting for 4th if in the Big Ten this year. That said I don't think it's completely fair to say the Big 12 is weak based on the one game in which ISU was without some of their better players.

from the sounds of it the Maui Tourney has gotten a much harder event to attend. We had tickets for game one then not knowing when game 2 was depending on outcome you just went to ticket counter after game and bought a ticket for that game. All tickets were $40 and general admission. Was full but never had a problem getting a ticket. Incredible experience and never dreamt the Hawks would play as they did. Talked ISU fans that went this year and tickets were $300 if you could get one! Was a once in lifetime for sure...
