No no no. The mythical tavern hawk as explained to me by HN OG's is the hawk that didn't go to school there but are hawk fans. Plenty where I'm from, not that they went to school somewhere else, just that they didn't go I school anywhere. Nothing wrong with a tavern hawk.
 
ISU fans are under the belief that if you don't go to school there, you can't be a fan of them. It's a ******** philosophy, one shared only by a group of fans where you would only root for that school because you went there.
 
Following that same philosophy, you also can't root for any professional sports either, as they aren't in our state.
 
If you didn't go to school there, why would you WANT to be a clown fan? And if you DID go to school there, why would you want to be a fan?

That's kind of what I was trying to say. That's why they say that, is because they know you wouldn't want to root for them if you didn't go there.
 
Not many Hawk fans in my area. It's a strongly alumni-driven fanbase. In fact, two of the few I know actually played at Iowa (Ernie Sheeler and Brad Reid). I'll go with no more than 40%.
 
In my imediate office area today, I have one tavern hok (me), one clown grad and one badger grad. Does this help?

This is pure BS. Plenty of Cornfield 'Clones where I live.

For instance, since clowns dominated Hawks 9-6 in fb, redneck farmer now dons clown t-shirt when he goes to town on Saturdy night. "HoooooooWeeeeeee! 'we' wupped 'em good dint we, Clifford?"

Yes I agree it's stupid. That's why you are called a "fan", not an "alumni".
