It's slow season so this is gonna go here.

April 28th the Yeshiva Maccabees (private Orthodox Jewish college in NYC) play the Lehman College Lightning, also from NYC. The two teams currently have a combined losing streak of 0-124. This will possibly be the worst game in college baseball history and I'm 100% on board baby. This is the kind of shit I love about baseball.

This Maccabees hitter using a TPX bat from 1997 and wearing his good pair of glasses is peak. Lehman's field with an 8" hole in front of the rubber, weeds in the baseline and no fence in the outfield makes it even better. I want to go watch this game more than any game in my life, and I could probably play in it too. @99topdawg , are you in? Let's go Bull Durham this thing. I was going to say I'd pay for the tickets but no way are they charging to get into this. I'll pay the subway fare and buy you a hotdog.

Amazing.

When I was in HS, we had a regular season where we went 1-23. Our only win was against a conference opponent, we split with them in the regular season, they were also 1-23.

So of course, we played them in the first round of districts. Sadly our best player missed the bus because he was late getting back from detasseling and we lost the rubber match.

Since this is the only baseball thread going: don't look now, but Iowa has a 7-2 BTen record and is tied for the conference lead! Granted, that includes a 3-game home sweep of what has to be one of the worst P4 teams in the nation (Ohio St.), but they did take a series from Sparty, who has a decent record. As a casaual fan, this doesn't look like a great Iowa team to me, and tougher days are no doubt ahead, but that's a darn good start to the conference season.
During one game this past weekend, an Ohio St. pitcher walked in 3 consecutive Iowa runs before getting pulled. I saw an Iowa pitcher do this last season, and couldn't believe my eyes. Perhaps those of you who know baseball a lot better than me can enlighten on a coach's thinking in that situation. I mean, if a guy comes in with the bases loaded and walks the first two guys he faces, aren't the odds pretty darn good he's gonna walk the next guy?!

In Jr High, we played soccer against a smaller school and lost 16-1. By smaller school, I mean by enrollment only. Each opposing player was at least 6' tall and weighed 180-240, which is a lot for a 12 yr old. And were either as fast or faster than us at each position.

This looks awesome! I'd love to be there. Maybe you should see if you can umpire. I'm thinking huge strike zone. Good for them though for getting a chance to play a team that with similar ability. It sucks playing someone that is a lot better or worse than you.

Playing on a shit field like this reminds me of my freshman year in college during the floods of '93. We looked for any patch of dirt we could find to play on. We played in some town (Atkins? Watkins?) on a really hard, crappy field and loved it. Played a triple-header against Kirkwood. Actually got a nice day. Water standing in the OF, but nobody cared. Found a patch when we were supposed to play Iowa Lakes. No idea where. Just somewhere a long ways from Iowa Falls. No chance of rain. Drove up there and of course, it rained and we had to turn around and go back home.

I hate being the one to say it, but both these streaks need to continue. Am I the only one hoping thunderstorms that week and no other time to work the game into their schedules. Just simply too much at stake. Records like this weren't meant to be broken.

I believe this can only be referred to as "good posting."

Thank you for this.

You've described my freshman football game against Dowling Catholic. I don't know wtf they were feeding those kids. They were huge. I was the tallest guy on our starting O line, and I was shorter than anyone on their D line.

I grew up listening with my Dad to Harry Carey and Jack Buck doing Cardinals games on the radio (those were great teams in the sixties). Wonderful memories.
