NU's Drew Crawford. Say What!? LOL

And for the record, I respect the bee jeez us out of Matt Gatens. Truly classy hard working young man who always played to win. But I would not have faulted him for using a fifth year, if he had had one, to leave Iowa if Iowa was where NU is when he did it. As I recall, Gatens had something to do with running out Lick because of his desire to win.

Yeah, in a way, MG had a hand in saving Iowa hoops because I think he and his dad forced Barta's hand. I would really like to see MG come back as an assistant coach. He has seems to have that coaches focus.

I have the exact opposite opinion of him for staying put. He is a loser for staying IMHO. Who wants to finish at the bottom of the big ten, yet again. As opposed to helping an already good team be even better and playing meaningful games. Only a loser would be ok with ending his college career without ever playing in the NCAA tourney.

Maybe he realizes he won't be playing in the NBA and wants to get his degree from Northwestern. Having a degree from Northwestern will open a lot more doors then a degree from state schools.

Omg this is painful. He already has his degree from NU. Thus, he is eligible to leave NU for his 5th yr. Do I need to draw pictures in crayon to communicate more effectively?

I like how this guy thinks the point is going over people's head. Like, it's that deep or something.

No it is going over people's heads because it's too dumb for them to understand. "This guy who has endured the losing culture at NWHS for four years, earned a great degree, been very successful and become very popular with that program must think winning is the absolute only thing that matters. I can't imagine how there could be another factor in where he chooses to go to school other than winning." If a guy believes in himself enough, he thinks he can win no matter where he goes (which Crawford obviously does, as the OP indicated) so he can play where he wants to play, not just where other players have won before.

It's sailing over a couple of heads. You obviously are an intellectual who continues to read and post on a thread he thinks is "stupid." You must be taking breaks from computing algorithms and transcendental meditation. Thanks for stopping in though Einstein.

Huh? So you are saying Crawford thought he would win this year at Northwestern? What? He isn't stupid so you must be saying he is delusional. So if I "believe in myself enough," I can overcome the reality of an inferior team? Wow! The fact is that he was comfortable at NU and probably likes his team mates. But I do not believe for one second he deluded himself into thinking he was going to win this year. Thus, he chose comfort over winning. That's my only real point here. Gatens however knew where the program was under Lick and knew it wasn't getting better, so he worked to induce change. He did not delude himself into thinking if I just "believe in myself" more we can go to the final four.

Dude, the thread is about him saying NW can compete with Iowa for 40 mins after we've routed them in IC and in Evanston. It's obvious he's delusional.

Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Northwestern Wildcats Recap - CBSSports.com

''Obviously Iowa's a tremendous team. Give them credit, but we didn't play our best, especially in the second half,'' Crawford said. ''I think that's a team we're capable of competing with for 40 minutes and tonight we weren't able to do that.''

Ok Mr. Genius - you do realize that you lost twice by 26 points don't you?

Delusional is one word that comes to mind. Any others?

What do you expect him to say...we suck Iowa should have beat us by 40. Crawford is wrong but as a coach I would hate it if he said he couldn't play with us as it shows he I isn't the competitor you want.

"Both teams played hard my man". Keep it short and truthful, don't need to make crazy false statements like Crawford did, he just comes off looking stupid.

Yeah ... good for him. Often wondered how decent guys on crappy teams stay motivated when it's a given they are going to lose and, in all honesty, have nothing to play for except the love of competing and the game.

There comes a point where it becomes nothing more than a personal challenge to see how you stack up.

Our seats were right behind the NU bench yesterday...and I can tell you Mr. Crawford basically buried his head in his hands while the game the winding down. He's a competitor. More power to him.

The raucous chant "Let's Go Hawks" by 4K or so Hawk fans at the end didn't help matters I'm sure. :)

I think he likes it there because every time he scores the announcer yells "DRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWW FOR TWWWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!" It is hella annoying but I can see how it would impress a 22 or 23 year old kid.

Dude, were you kind of in the corner in a yellow sweatshirt? I swore I saw you but when I came over at halftime, you were gone.

He deserves it! I hope they lose out!

Well the chicagoland area is full people willing to settle. Call it good if only 20 people are shot in a weekend. Call it good if you take the train to work. Call it good if your house is stacked on other peoples houses and you dont really own land. Call it good if your famous pizza is really just sauce on top of a loaf of bread. Oprah. Look at the roads in Chicago not to mention you have to stop every mile to pay a toll.

I just think its sad that Crawford got sucked into this area as so many youngsters do. Its cool go to chicago they say. Ohh and everything within 50 miles of chicago is chicago to me.

That was me, and no, sorry, I didn't move the entire game, and, we stuck around afterwards for 30+ minutes so we could meet/chat up the Iowa players. And yes, I was in a bright yellow pullover in section 110, row C.
