''Obviously Iowa's a tremendous team. Give them credit, but we didn't play our best, especially in the second half,'' Crawford said. ''I think that's a team we're capable of competing with for 40 minutes and tonight we weren't able to do that.''

Ok Mr. Genius - you do realize that you lost twice by 26 points don't you?

Delusional is one word that comes to mind. Any others?

Meh, I think any player on most teams thinks they can compete with anybody.

Yeah ... good for him. Often wondered how decent guys on crappy teams stay motivated when it's a given they are going to lose and, in all honesty, have nothing to play for except the love of competing and the game.

There comes a point where it becomes nothing more than a personal challenge to see how you stack up.

You have a very valid point. Good post.

"Competing with" can mean a lot of things. They competed with Iowa twice. Both times ended badly for them.

Also, you have to respect the guy for staying at NW and not jumping ship like so many other 5th year seniors do.

40 minutes over the course of 2 games isn't delusional at all...

:D

Don't feel a bit sorry for that guy. He and pimple guy won a bunch straight against the Hawks a few years back. Now he is getting his.

I have the exact opposite opinion of him for staying put. He is a loser for staying IMHO. Who wants to finish at the bottom of the big ten, yet again. As opposed to helping an already good team be even better and playing meaningful games. Only a loser would be ok with ending his college career without ever playing in the NCAA tourney.

No offense Guido but I hardly would call Matt Gatens a "Loser"! How about you think before you open your pie hole??
Matt Gatens has a lot of respect because he bled black and gold....... you ? not so much!

You don't read so well. I did not call Matt Gatens a loser. I called Drew Crawford a loser for having a loser mentality. I wrote that because as a 5th yr senior he could've played meaningful games somewhere and he chose to stay with a bottom feeder thereby indicating thru his choice that he is ok with never playing in an NCAA tourney game. Matt Gatens never had a fifth year and certainly was never ok with the idea of never seeing the ncaas.

How about before you tell someone to shut their pie hole (real original btw), you take your Ritalin, slow down, focus on understanding what has been written, then ask mommy for some help, then maybe provide a written response with at least a modicum of originality. Pie hole. Good one.

Yeah, I'm sure Mr Guido respected the hell out of all the players that bailed on Iowa when Lick was here.

And if Gatens bled black and gold, then does Crawford bleed nerd and dork?

Oh I read real well... when you say things like this, you group anyone, including former Hawkeyes, into loservile for staying loyal. You don't respect MG for staying even though he played for one of the worst team in Hawkeye lore?
I respect guys like Crawford, because they "honor" their commitment regardless of their circumstances. You do know what "Honor" means right? :)

All the room temperature IQs in the room need to take a deep breath, but not too deep for fear of losing more brain cells. I did not write that I respect guys for transferring. Everyone's situation is different. This discussion is about the 5th yr senior rule which allows a player with their degree to transfer after being on campus for four years. Some guys stay put. Some guys don't. However, I think most competitors want to win, and certainly want to play meaningful games in the NCAA tourney. In Drew Crawford's case (and his case ONLY), I question the competitiveness of someone who has been in a loser program for 4 years, then has a chance to taste winning but turns it down in favor of more losing. That's all. I'm not talking about Matt Gatens. I'm not talking about transfers under Lick. And I'm not saying others should see it my way. I just know if given that opportunity I would chase it. I want to win and I don't think the color of his blood would change for pursuing such an opportunity.

You are a black/white thinker obviously. It's a very simple way of viewing the world. Drew Crawford honored his commitment. He was at NU for 4 years. By your thinking though, every coach, player or employee anywhere who left a program, team or job is not "honorable." Every free agent lacks honor. Every person who finds a better job lacks honor. And btw, scholarships are for one year so you honor your commitment on a yearly basis. So Uthoff has no honor under your simple way of thinking correct? Or does he have honor just because he transferred to a school you root for?

NW improved their performance by not only scoring less points against us the second time, but they also held us to less points. Only problem is we won by 26 points both times. I don't recall ol' DC stating he thought NW could hang with us the first time around. Oh well, I get it. He's using coach speak to keep his teammates inspired. Good for him. Problem is that he should look for a much better example.
