Now we know who's on the team for the new season

Sargent is a good back, but he lacks top end speed. If Iowa's line was better he would have done better, but so would Goodson. So he would still be waiting to spell Goodson.

Oh Goodson definitely is #1, I wasnt saying that as you can see Goodson has more speed, goodson seems to see the holes very well and he has the feet to cutback ala Russell, JLewis and Green. He will probably never have SGreen's power and size but with a really good blocking line with some holes Goodson should rip off a few big runs per game.

Some good points, but I like Sargent as the 2nd back in the 21-shotgun sets they used a bit this season. That is 2 backs that could either protect, release, run, or lead-block. Creates some scheme challenges. I also like IKM in that role, potentially.

Frankly, now that we are bringing in highly-touted TEs, I wouldn't mind seeing more use of the TE as that 2nd body joining the QB in the shotgun set. Gives a long, physical blocking presence, good lead blocker, but also someone who can threaten in the pass game. As sad as it is to say, I think the FB should be largely marginalized in this offense in favor of athletic, "move" TEs.

I think using our TEs as H-backs can help curb the "We need a FB" mentality. If a team is going to utilize a full-time FB, he should be a capable threat as a runner and receiver, not the "gimmick" in a blow-out win. Lew Montgomery or Norm Granger equaled "Don't sleep on their FB". Weisman is really the last FB we had that could legit make yards. And that's only because he had to take over at RB when Bullock (may he R.I.P.), Garmon, et. al., went down with injuries.

If we win 8 games this year it’ll show me we hit a new level of recruiting and talent. Hopefully no more dips into 6 wins and below land.

I'd be happy with 7, tbh. 6 is a possibility - an injury at RB, TE, Qb, C, or guard and watch out.

New qb with no experience, Wirfs gone, Goodson is our only threat in the backfield, and same OC. Doesn't sound like a recipe for a very good offense. Not that it was good this year either. Petras will be better than Stanley, but having no experience, there will be some growing pains. We need another back to emerge because Goodson isn't going to be able to take the pounding all year. Hopefully IKM has improved because Sargent isn't going to get it done.

Enough time must have passed since the Holiday Bowl ... :)
