Drake almost beat UCLA with Lou Alcindor, came down to a last second miss by Dolph Pullium

I don't think he was fouled, but it was the close game. UCLA blew out Purdue the next night.
Why would the players not want to beat us by 60?

Makes you wonder a bit....would Iowa have gone longer in the tourney provided they played someone other than Nova in the 2nd round? As much as I think they collectively choked down the stretch and probably had infighting among themselves (possibly with the coaching staff as well) Iowa probably makes it to the sweet 16 in another circumstance.

Let's no go there. ISU hangs banners for these types of 'mythical' tourney runs when they lose to someone who advances. We do not do that.
We got what we deserved and were simply not good enough. No shame in making the tourney and winning a game. That means we were somewhere between 17-32.... Split the difference and that's # 25. That's about right for this team. When we got hot for a month we were much better than #25. When we cooled off much worse but around 25 is our mean.

Very good and accurate assessment. When we were good, we were REALLY good. When we were bad, we weren't "REALLY" bad.
A good, solid, one-win-in-the-tourney team that "could" have made a run, or not, depending on circumstances.
Probably what we can expect from Fran-led teams for the duration, with the occasional Sweet 16/Elite 8 run outnumbering the non-tourney years.

It only takes one. You put your team in the tourney most years and either have a team capable of winning multiple games and/or get lucky and get a good draw or have an upset in front of you. The more you are in, the more likely something goes your way.
Davis who is well respected by many Iowa fans made 2 in 13'ish. His very first team with Raveling's recruits and his last team. That's about 10 years in between. Fran has made the tourney 3 times now winning a game twice so that's a start.
