And yet, since making the NIT, he hasn't missed a year of post-season play. THAT's what I am basing it on...

Then why didn't they? Yes, they are clearly far better and Iowa played poorly in the first half, but obviously they have no problem running it up...so why didn't they

Again, I'm not saying Iowa was at Villanova's level, clearly they are not. Honestly, I think Iowa's best game maybe still loses by 10+ against Villanova's best....

Villanova is destroying really good team...they just good.

This is not true. If Nova wanted to it could have beaten Oklahoma by 60 because Oklahoma quit the last 10 minutes of the game. Iowa played like crap for the first half but did not quit in the second half at all.

Let's no go there. ISU hangs banners for these types of 'mythical' tourney runs when they lose to someone who advances. We do not do that.

We got what we deserved and were simply not good enough. No shame in making the tourney and winning a game. That means we were somewhere between 17-32.... Split the difference and that's # 25. That's about right for this team. When we got hot for a month we were much better than #25. When we cooled off much worse but around 25 is our mean.

As I said above, we dug our own grave. And, I will go there as luck of the draw can be a factor in how far a team can go. Obviously, getting a 7 seed and ending up playing a hot Nova team did not work in our favor. If Iowa did not screw it up down the stretch, perhaps we play a more favorable match up. Then again, you can be MSU and go out against a 15.

All that said, I agree Iowa was playing like a bubble team at the end of the year and probably went as far as to be expected. Certainly as far as their record indicated.

Iowa played their way down to a 6 or 7 seed. They could have easily gotten a 6 instead and they could have also gotten a 2 that wasn't the best team in the tournament. Yes we dug our own grave. But we kinda got unlucky with getting under seeded and getting a team that also got under seeded. If only one happened, we could have had a chance. We were nowhere near good enough to overcome both.

Not going to lie, I didn't pay much attention to Nova prior to the tournament. I thought this was a typical Jay Wright team, I thought Scottie Reynolds was still on the team, Harold Jensen and Ed Pickney could still have eligibility left. I didn't see them steamrolling teams like this coming. I am basically rambling at the moment it would have been interesting after the 10-1 start in BIG play what would have happened if Iowa just went 4-3 down the stretch.

Iowa was under-seated due to an unfair perception about the strength of the conference that they are in. It was reported that several other teams in the Big 10 conference were also under-seated. Had Iowa played a 4/13 winner their probably of winning would have been much higher. They played Nova tight too when Sapp was on the courrt early in the first before picking up 2 fouls, and throughout the second half where Iowa gainef ground against them. Had he stayed in the game the reduction in turnovers and his defence would have reduced the probably of Nova making that run in the 16 minutes that he sat.

Looking at the 4 seeds, iowa had basically the same resume. That's a big drop when you have the resume of a 4 seed but get a 7 seed. Iowa had the same conference record as Wisconsin and a better non conference. That means we actually had a better year than them but we ended up with a worse draw.

Point noted. I am getting a little nervous when some Iowa fans start to sound like ISU fans.

Quite frankkly our senior laden team sheet the bed.

It may be a looooooooooooooong while before we see again the hope and expectations for Iowa fans reach the level where is was this past season when sportscasters were projecting us as a number one seed.

It is what it is... Figuring out this Jeckyl and Hyde team is just a waste of time at this point. I wasted a lot of time doing it down the stretch and I'm just glad it's over now.. Nova is for real and I bet they show UNC that tonight. If UNC gets away from playing inside out they are beatable. They can get cold shooting outside that's usually hurt them in the past. Their big guys can do some big time damage when they go to them a lot. Seems like they get away from that at times though so if Nova gets ahead early I think that'd only play into their hands.. We'll see

Iowa fans wouldn't know what this is like except for when White got it going. However there were many games where he seemed to disappear. This past year was disappointing as far as post play goes.
