Something else to consider…
One of the biggest reasons floated why ND didn’t join the Big10 previously is due to their TV deal with NBC. It was stated that ND didn’t want to join the B10 because they make more money on their own. That has changed dramatically over the last few years.
In 2008 NBC and ND extended their deal to run through the 2015 season. While terms of that contract were not released it was noted that under the current contract NCB paid ND 9million per year for the rights to broadcast home games. While that is indeed a big number it pales to the 13million (I’ve heard this number thrown around it could be wrong) each school gets from the B10 network.
In addition when Dick Ebersol signed that contract he was quoted as saying ND didn’t need to win titles for the deal to be good for NBC, they just needed to be a top 10 team. The reality is ND has finished in the top 10 only 3 times in the 17 years NBC has had the TV contract which is clearly not a good ratio. There is the distinct possibility that the NBC money won’t be around in 2015 and with the success it’s had the B10 Network isn’t going anywhere.
If you combine the facts that they could make more $$$ in the B10 than they do as an independent, the NBC $$$ might not be there long term, with the landscape change of college football as the B10 and Pac10 expand it seems like a slam dunk that ND will be FORCED to join a conference and the B10 seems to be the only logical fit.
When you break it down though it’s still only about the money.
Very true nobody can physically force them to do that.... however they certainly may be FORCED to either join a conference if they want a part of the new BCS or playoff system. And they may be FORCED to choose between joining a conference or falling into football obscurity like Army and Navy.
Good Stuff Duff, I have to say you are wrong though, it isn't about Money it is about their EGO. They think they are too good for the Big 10
You really think Notre Dame would be obscure without a conference?

Duffman, I know you're trying to make some unbelievable prediction that you can go back on and say "see, I told ya" IF it happens but for you to think Notre Dame football will be obscure without a conference is laughable at best.

Acutally between the BTN, ESPN and ABC the Big Ten made $242 million in tv revenue last year or $22 million per school. So while Indiana and NW got $22 million ND got their $9 million.
The Big 10 with ND would make more money as well and ND would get a good share of that. Other than ego, I don't see why ND wouldn't join. I've never run the numbers though.
