media and fans can bitch and complain all they want. We can sign 400 petitions to get Brian fired. Media can write hundreds of articles us how the “buck needs to stop with Kirk and we all deserve answers” And we all know Barta has no balls to just fire Brian. We as fans are hostage to Kirk until us stubborn ass changes or retires..

Trust me that gorilla is going to get to BIG for KF to avoid. What is going on right now is far greater than everything he’s ever seen before!

Can't really disagree.

What gets me is guys like Kirk aren't stupid. You don't get this kind of longevity in D1 football by being totally incompetent. Having said that, can't he see the game has changed? Is it that much of a challenge to his ego to change his view on offense? People in all fields of life have to change ways of doing things if they stay at things long enough. But I suppose merely asking these questions explains why I've never come close to making 7 figures a year.

Hard to figure. This is football, not rocket science. KF knows full well what is going on with successful offenses around the country, as does every other power five coach in the business. He knows the X’s and O’s Beginning to end. Does anyone here even somewhat believe that the coaches are unaware of the fundamentals of the modern game? Good grief. They do this for a living and get paid millions to perform their duties. None of us on this board, I would wager my next social security check, know even half of the technical aspects delivered by a power five coach and his highly educated and experienced staff. Computer metrics rule the football world, and these guys aren’t dumb. So don’t waste your time arguing that the Iowa coaches are behind the times. Something else is going on with this program and it is big time serious. Speculation? Maybe it’s the Jimmy’s and Joe’s and asking them to do things they are incapable of. We have seen an uptick in recruiting rankings, but just maybe the results are misleading. In the meantime, get a new OC, even if is for appearances. Hire a new guy and leave him the hell alone. The transition will not be brief or pretty. Deal with it, grasshopper.

They improved their recruiting big time these last few years, which was exciting for everyone. All life now drained out of the program.

It’s true now, but If KF makes no changes after this season and we see no Marked improvement in 2023 on the offensive side, Than after the 2023 season KF will be faced with the prospect of make changes or else!

How I see it playing out. I would like to think Changes are made, but IMO I believe KF is stubborn enough to not make changes after this season and it will be to his detriment..

Or else what?

Possibly lose one to a few to the portal. He'll be less likely to score a few higher rated recruits. Maybe lose one or two more to ISU than usual. We'll see less cases of recruits who are considering Iowa, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin. We'll just see a few more of the recruits who are considering the likes of Iowa, Missouri, Pitt, and Rutgers. (which, I assume kind of along the lines of what most potential out-state Hawkeye recruits are considering....ie middle of the road). Since large swathes of the team is made up of Iowans who wanted nothing more than to be a Hawkeye for 10 years or so, that'll be fairly consistent.

And we'll have an offensive line that is not primarily sophomores with a light sprinkling of non 3 year starter seniors, and a heavy smattering of freshmen.

We'll have running backs who seem pretty decent. And tight ends who seem pretty decent. And, I see no reason the defense won't be solid. Same with special teams.

So, basically not too terribly different than the last 40+ years? Other than maybe a marginally different recruiting ability. Which I just don't see translating to more than a handful of wins.

Yes, we'll still have Brian. Which means, we will likely underperform. But we won't be this bad. And very likely, we get back fairly quickly to about where we've been the bulk of the last 40 years. Just with a bit fewer "wow, that was a fun season" years.

The thing that gets me is that the changes could be minimal. We all know he's never going to fire his son and almost everyone can agree that there's still a spot somewhere for him on this staff. The issue could be resolved with him being relegated back to a position coach and a new OC entering the picture. Everyone knows KF's calling the shots anyway. At least this way it looks on the outside like he's actually trying to address a previous mistake.

Fans/Media trying to lobby for Padilla, Labas, and no more Petras/Brian Ferentz. That stubborn ass won't budge.
I have a friend close to the team that overheard this:

Conversation before the season:

Padilla: Hey Spence, congrats on winning the open QB competition.
Petras: Thanks. Hopefully I can play well, but if I don't, it's nice we have a good backup to come in.
Padilla: No way you'll get benched.
Petras: If I play bad enough I will.
Padilla: No way that happens.
Petras: It's D1 football, of course it would. Their reputations are on the line.
Padilla: Wanna bet?
Petras: Sure.

A few weeks into the season:

Padilla: See, I told you they wouldn't bench you.
Petras: I tried. Believe me I tried. You were right and I was wrong.

Before the season:

KF: Spencer won the QB competition
BF: Yep, and it's nice that we have Alex right there if Spencer doesn't play well.
KF: No. Spencer is our guy.
BF: You'll start Alex if needed. You didn't get to be a hall of fame coach by being that stubborn.
KF: Spencer is my guy.

A few weeks into the season:

BF: Alex, I really thought if I called plays badly enough, you'd get to play.
Padilla: That's OK. I won a bet with Spence because I knew he'd never get benched.
BF: Better watch out, the NCAA will come down on you if they find out. Is that the only bet you made?
Padilla: No, I bet that, no matter how bad our offense is, you'd keep your job. Easier money than NIL.
