Not so good David Kenny news

Jon I don't know how you do this. I just got back from my self imposed exile read one thread and I'm already annoyed.

I get a kick out of people thinking this kids considering going to Indiana is because of Iowa losing. Have any of you watched Indiana football? There may be some decomitments down the road because of a bad season but this isn't a sign of that. This is a sign of a kid contemplating playing football for his father.

And thus the downtick in recruiting begins. Had a good three year run correlating with our decent seasons and now Iowa will go back to having 60th and worse recruiting classes until the 2010-2012 classes emerge and the product on the field gets good again.

This is one of the few kids that I would be disappointed by if he left the team. He was the first commit of the year, a highly touted recruit and I think one that could contribute early as he already has the size to go with some skill. Since he was one of the first commits I think that shows that he was committed strongly and I don't think that it's the W-L scaring him but the Father connection. I think Delano Hill, the other one I would be highly disappointed in if he left would be more convinced by a poor showing by the Hawks.

blah blah blah obvious statement inserted here. Yada yada yada insert KF blame here. Followed by a way outrageous comment of over reaction.

The Kid hasn't played a down in collage. Let's not dub him the next Bruce Smith. That's right go Bills!

It's the lack of good recruits that has gotten us back to this point in the first place. If Iowa really, truly wants to compete and be solid year in and year out they need to keep these type of commits. I know the adage, stars don't mean ****, but overall, they usually are a fairly good indicator of how a kid will play in college. If Iowa had more 4* kids in the 08/09 classes we wouldn't be 2-2 this year.

Following high schoolers on twitter, also creepy.

Totally get that and I wouldn't follow them were it not recruiting related. There are a few I follow each year up to signing day, like Reece Fleming, who tweet about other prospects and visits, commits, etc...once signing day comes, I bail.

Is this your first rodeo? This sort of stuff pops up every couple of years. I don't recall reading anyone saying that message board negativity affected recruiting.

Winning and losing? Yeah, that can have an effect.

Not my first rodeo, I'm aware.

But I also hear an increasingly arrogant Ferentz in his latest press conference. One that is taking subtle jabs at the fans and their criticism (going back to late 2009 when a few dared to ask why Vandy hadn't gotten a few reps with the 1's prior to Ricky's sudden injury). Support does not equal "no criticism", Kirk.

So it wouldn't surprise me to see him make a comment about the negativity around the program having some effect. Maybe not... but only time will tell.

I'd say class attrition in the 08 and 09 classes is a bigger problem, given how this staff has proven time and again they can develop talent. Chances are pretty decent that two of the seven or eight DL who have left would have worked out pretty well and that would change the dynamic of this defense.

Could you post an example? Not being coy here, I have listened to all of his press conferences pretty much since he came to Iowa. I haven't felt that way, but then again I am not on high alert to that sort of thing the way some people are right now.

I think it is both. 2008 and 2009 were poor recruiting classes. Add in the extremely high attrition in these poor classes and you see where we are today.

How did you interpret the "tips" jar? Serious question. I haven't read much about that anywhere and i found it a bit puzzling.

"That's recruiting ..." says Kirk ... :)

Honestly, until a kid signs on the dotted line you simply take their "verbal" with a grain of salt. Sadly, that is the world of recruiting nowadays. And kids will jump off a bandwagon as quickly as they jumped on it. Iowa's season will definitely not help on the recruiting front. I will not be surprised if we lose a couple of "verbals."

Certainly the attrition was a big factor but I agree with SMB, we were kind of behind the 8-ball to begin with because those classes were just so poor talent wise.

Exactly. If this was a performance thing don't you think he would be considering one of the other ten schools that offered him. You knew when they hired his dad this was a possibility. Iowa could be 4-0 or 0-4 and he would be looking at Indy. They knew that when they hired his dad.

..Just hope this doesn't thrown John Kenny into the mix as well at IU.. as he seems to be good friends with David Kenney..

Can't seem to find the transcript of this week's presser. (I know you posted it somewhere for us). If i can find the reference I'll link it.

But the last line of your post... is not too different from what I'm referring to.
