Not making the NCCA tournament with this team would be unacceptable in Year 4

They did not have to be a Big Ten Champion. They did not have to have a Final Four Run. But they do need to make the Big Dance this year. This was important not only for the psychology of this current team, but for the future of the program. Now, I have to think this team is probably a bubble team with more work to do.

This team has the talent to at least be a Big Dance team and they are under achieving.

I said in another post Fran has chinks in his armor. Now I see a gaping hole. The elegant speaking Fran that we normally see and hear from in his pressers has been regulated to "Ya," "I don't have answers," and we are "a little fragile."

He needs to get his team performing at enough of a level in the Big Ten Tournament to redeem this season and make sure they make the Big Dance. It would be his best coaching job to date at Iowa if he can accomplish this imho. They still may make the Big Dance by default, but this is not a tourney team right now. They are not even a very motivated NIT team. And, I think he has an uphill battle. If they can't beat Illinois at home playing for a bye in your own conference tournament and not putting yourself potentially on the bubble, how are you going to fix things in 5 days for the post season?

Somewhere along the line this team was lost. I have to think at this point there are chemistry issues on this team. I just hope that Fran is not the catalyst or root of the problems behind the scene with this team.

Very disappointing. I hope things get turned around.

Once again, they might get in the Big Dance by default (probably will), but they are one and done right now. Personally, I don't think they deserve it. They need to show some large balls in conference tournament to prove their worth imho. If I was on the committee I'm not sure I would put them in at this point and I bleed black and gold.

I will have to admit that I'd like to see a DeAndre Kane on the Iowa team

and The Mayor coaching it.

I agree that there seem to be some kind of chemistry issues with this team, and I agree that I hope Fran isn't the cause for it. But this isn't a bubble team.

If they aren't on the bubble does that mean they shouldn't get in? Cuz they certainly ain't a tourney team right now. Body of work says they're not.

They better make the tournament this year. They really need a Sweet 16 run too because if Fran can barely, and I mean barely, win 20 games with this team, what's he going to do next year without Marble and Basabe?

Win 20 games and be on the bubble? I really don't see us falling off much next year, the B10 as a whole might take a big step back next season.

This is what scares me man.. Terrified for next year

Does anyone remember that one time when michigan lost 3 of their top players from last year and still won the BIG this year? Yep, good times.....

We could be better next year... never know.

This year has been a disappointment but there is still time to fix things.

Remember 4 years ago and we had 20 losses, good times. People need to back away from the edge a little when it comes to Fran.

I'm glad to see there are so many on here that know so much more about basketball then Fran does. If the job opens up be sure to send in your app. IMO I feel that a couple players like White and Marble letting the success went to their heads. Like White saying we are losing to teams we are better then. Talks pretty cheap Mr. White. Show it on the court and not with lip service.Hoping they wake up and make a run. I also think they will be BETTER next yr even without Dev and Mel. Jok will be a stud next yr and with a fast PG coming in we will be better. Jarod U needs to put on some weight in the off season so he can stop getting pushed around so much.

I should have said last night they may not be a bubble team (by default) but they should be. Now, if they lose in the first round of the B10 Tourney, maybe a bubble team, but still likely a 10 seed. But, really should be no debate about Iowa being in or not. It should not have to come down to this. Losing 4 home games is so perplexing and unacceptable leading to these types of discussions for a team like this in year 4.

They are going to get in, but I don't think they deserve it unless they win at least one game in the conference tournament.

I also want to see a lot of "in your jersey defense" from now on in for the rest of this year.

Regardless if they are in or not, the stay will be super short in the post season without a change in philosophy on defensive fundamentals and strategy.

This, imagine what we would be saying if they hadn't pulled that Purdue game out...

Iowa is a bubble team. That is why there a lot of posts about it. I have seen two article on Yahoo about it, too. What they said is that if Iowa loses the first game in the tourney they are squarely on the bubble. Depends also on what happens in some other conference tourneys.
