Not getting juco help a bad idea

I would really like to ask McCaffrey what he saw last season that gave him reason to think we would be anything but awful without an infusion of talent. Yes we got screwed tonight, but we shot 1-12 from 3, can't defend the perimeter and our senior leader had 6 points and was invisible in the second half.

Cartwright had cramping issues off and on all last season, yet we don't get a PG in here. We lost Cole, yet don't bring a non project guy to play down low. 2 of his 3 recruits get little if any court time and the one juco he pursued had a laundry list of "issues".

I like McCaffrey and understand he needs time etc., but given one full year to get help in here, he whiffed. Two respectable juco players would not make us an NCAA team, but at least we would not be a circus act of futility.

Not a good idea for this year.

If we get consecutive top 25 recruiting classes you wont need Jucos

I thought Marble was terrific at the point in replacement of Cartwright.

I thought this was one of Marble's better games at point in his career, and one of his best overall games of the season. I haven't been able to see all of the games, but it seemed like he and Melsahn were sleepwalking to the same dream until tonight.

I could not agree more. The only thing i can think of is that it has something to do with scholarships. You need very little basketball background to see that we are lack the needed athletes to compete at any level. I personally met a young man who was a juco point guard in iowa who is now playing/starting at another d-1 school this year and is averaging double figures. I asked him if he had offers from iowa state or iowa and he said no. Frankly i wonder sometimes

He did. His name was Hubbard

Exactly.

Everyone has their underwear in a twist because they thought we were going to be good this year. I just don't see how anyone could have thought that. Every single one of Fran's decisions has pointed toward long-term success in 2013 and beyond. It's the reason we pulled the offer on a low-ceiling guy like Glover; it's the reason why we have a ridiculously soft schedule this year; it's the reason we aren't trying to get guys like Brennan Cougill back on the team; it's the reason we tried to hit a home run with Guerrero rather than just bring in a marginal PG we knew we could sign.

The one attempt at a quick fix was Hubbard, and he didn't work out. That's the risk you run with the type of quick-fix guys you're going to get to come to a school coming off of an 11-win season.

i honestly don't see how people can complain about the play of the team after tonight's game. They outplayed UNI in every aspect except for one - the refs

Yep, there are a lot of really talented junior college basketball players with no issues who want to come to a clean program that won 11 games.

I'm being sarcastic. I almost hit post reply. Then I read my sentence over again and I'm not sure I was sarcastic enough. I would be surprised if there was one player last year that fit that criteria.

If there was one, I'm ****** Fran didn't get him. Seriously Fran, what the he_ll?
