Not be be gloomy but next year...

The DL has the POTENTIAL to be better, but it also could be a lot worse. Kind of like King and Krouls 1st years......... actually those years were statistically better than this year.

Alvis will be back for the Big Ten season...just watch. Remember Chad Greenway tearing his ACL in spring camp and playing by the end of September?
Dom will be back in September...it was a clean tear, with no ancillary damage.

If Darrian Cooper and Carl Davis get ready, and play well, we will be fine. Hardy,Trincat-Passat,Gaglione,Bigach,Spears,McMinnis can all help out.
Nobody saw Leroy Smith coming when he flipped from running back to d-end and led the league in sacks either....you just never know. Maybe Iowa signs Tommy Schutt and he plays right away.

I agree that the offense will be fine and the back seven on defense looks to be solid. I don't know why people are so worried about the D line, like people have said, it can't get much worse. On the bright side, they should be bigger man for man than this year, so hopefully they won't get pushed around so much.

How are things going to get better...

Losing McNutt... losing more defensive people... and at the line...

The way that everythign is falling into place... we're not set up in a linear fashion for improvement.

I hope I'm wrong and we end up better.

You're doing it wrong.

I think the offense has a chance for more consistency due to Vandenberg's development, having a 1-2 punch in the running game and a solid OL. Keenan Davis and KMM will be more than competent, and more consistency from the TE. If Iowa can get CJF working in the offense next year on par with historical production, I think Davis/KMM/CJF can have similar production to what Iowa has had this year in its passing game.

Now, up front on defense? Without a couple of Juco players, there is trouble.

The defense scares me more than anything and it wasn't up to standards this year...

make no question about it - Iowa has one games because of its defense mostly for the past 10 seasons.

Not sure I understand this....

Only thing that I infer is that I should assume we are going to be better...

which to me doesn't make much sense based on logic and the fact that then I'm setting myself up to be disappointed

Explain?

1 Northern Illinois (Chicago)
8 Iowa State (Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series)
15 Northern Iowa
22 Central Michigan
29 Minnesota (HC)

On the bright side the schedule sets up very nicely to start the season off 5-0.

We lost to two of those teams this year...and they were bad teams. I wouldn't count 5-0 ever again at Iowa based on schedule...when we can lose to this year's Minnesota team.

We're at home. That will be the big equalizer. I have learned to fear ISU and Minny on the road because of past results. But the minute we start fearing them coming into Kinnick is the day we should turn in our fan cards.

Coker and (who) in the running game? Canzeri?
(I think today's announcement re: McCall is the beginning of the end.)

OL??
The only way to support that claim is if Reiff returns. Ferentz is solid, then you pick your guards from either Scherff, Tobin (neither has been reliable) or MacMillan (who hasn't played the game in 1-1/2 years). Who you got at tackes -- Donnal? He might be great in 2 but not a snap to his name and you're claiming "solid"?

You're assessments usually play out but, today, help me see what you're banking on.

OL- Reiff should come back, he certainly hasnt been the dominant player we (and probably he) thought he'd be. I think he has much more to prove. IMO. Ferentz. Scherff has started. THen you have Van Slotten, McMillan, we'll be good to very strong. I think IMO

Throw in CJFed, Keenan, MM, Derby, Im not too worried offensively.
Defensively....now thats another story

Donall is a 4* RS FR and as a rule when we get a O-L that is rated high who does not suffer injuries does quite well,
Scherff is a RS freshmen, they do makes mistakes and i believe will replace Gettis
Van Sloten will probably replace Zuesivik
we have Walsh and Blythe RS this year who are pair of 4* O-L,
the star's are getting brighter
I have complete faith in the O-Line being solid for sometime

OL will be just fine. I like McMillan a lot if he can get back and i like the big boy from Decorah, Van Slotten
