Some things that jumped out at me:

119: Hathaway looked as he had no trouble getting 1st.
125: I wish Thielke would consider being a Hawk! He is the REAL DEAL!!! But he won't leave the state of Wisconsin.
140: Little Ballweg might be the best one of the 3 and walked threw this one.
152: Koethe getting second to Perkins is not that big of a loss because Perkins is a pretty solid wrestler who I believe is a top 100 recruit this year.
160: Interesting to see Moore pretty much dominate Kelly good that they are both Hawks.
215: Krum looked like he didn't have any trouble. Although I don't know if he is D1 material just yet. Might be a tweener and be to small for hwt and to big for 197.
 


Question on Austin Blythe. Is there any chance that he looks to play both football and wrestle? I am guessing with the addition of Bobby Telford, that our HWT spot might be tied up. Just wondering if Austin will look to do both sports in college?

-Not only did Hathaway not have much trouble winning this weight but he beat a more highly regarded (nationally) Eric Devos along the way.

-I completely agree on Thielke but don't think that Pritzlaff will let him get away!

-I definitely think that Jake Ballweg is the best of the 3 brothers! I think that his feet are still a little on the slow side like his brothers though which could cause him troubles at the D1 level...

-Koethe is a VERY solid wrestler and is a VERY legitimate D1 prospect and I hope that he becomes a Hawk.

-Moore is much better than Kelly at this point as most know. Kelly is a grinder though and will work hard. Hopefully it pays off at Iowa.

-I agree on the Krumweide assesment too. He looks to be a tweener and I'm not sure he's high D1 guy anyway... He didn't wrestle a ton of high competition this weekend either.

Austin Blythe will focus on football in college and that is probably for the best. Telford is the future at HWT for Iowa after Rasing and Johnson graduate. There are also some talented young HWT prospects out in the high school ranks in the coming years as well.

I know that Koethe had his "issues" this fall. From those in the "know", he has learned from his mistakes and straightened himself out?
 


I spent the day at the Regionals doing some coaching, observing and talking with several people. As far as Hathaway is concerned he is a legitimate DI wrestler who has a ton of upside. He will not blow you away physically or beat you with outstanding technique, but he is tough as nails and has great hips and a feel for the sport. He is a great kid and is a very focused and dedicated individual. It will be interesting to see just how big he gets. Koethe I think has put those issues behind him and he is becoming more focused. He also has some major upside, but still needs to develop technique wise as he often relies on his strength to bail himself out at times, but he loves the sport and works hard in the room. It wasn't his best tournament, but I think he will rebound come Fargo time. Moore is hard to guage, he is very impressive at the High School level. He is very solid, but not spectacular, but you can't argue with his results and I will say he is a step ahead of where Nate was at the same age. One more thing on Hathaway, he wrestled Saturday with a broken big toe so that shows you some of the toughness I talked about. Also spoke with Thielke for a little while and he is a very nice kid. He wrestles with great confidence, uses excellent leverage and also chain wrestles as good as any high school wrestler I have seen in awhile. As FF and Tobini said earlier he will be tough to get out of Wisky as he is very fond of the program.
 


The move in D1 heavyweights is toward the 230-250 pound athletes instead of the superheavies. Krum has a body that could put on some pounds. I like his chances of having a good D1 career.

I hate to say this but I see Kelly getting buried in the Iowa room. He is a kid who now seems like a perfect fit at UNI.

Also, Ryan Sheldon from Kennedy got third at 189. He placed 8th at 152 last season, in fact wrestled a decent match with Kelly at state. He's put on some pounds fast in this off-season.

Sheldon cut pretty hard to get down to 152 this past year. He has been living in the weight room since the season was completed. Considering the size of his dad and older brother and his desire to make a difference on the football field next year, it would not surprise me to see him bump up a number of weight classes next year.
