North Dakota: Thugs R Us

I agree, that was no time to stand up to North Dakota...it was good to just run to the locker room in a show of defiance.
Sorry, but my take is that we are bunch of pussies...with our coach leading the way. You shake their hand and say we enjoyed kicking your ass...come back any time. Geez, way to instill some competitive fire in your guys Fran. Let's not give them the satisfaction of a handshake. Ok...what a statement.

I like Fran...but I'm calling this one a bit of a douche move.

It was a physical game and the refs missed a lot. That being said I'm old school I don't let my wife grab my nuts as much as they were doing to Peter and I certainly don't want her pulling on my clothes as much as they were doing to Jordan. The refs should have stopped that grabbing of shorts and wrapping players up when they were lined up for inbounds plays. That's just too familiar for a first date. Iowa had better get used to it though that was just Michigan State light.

I think Fran let his anger get the best of him, but I understand it considering how the game ended. It was the heat of the moment and he made a quick decision. Clearly wasn't happy with some of the crap that was going on, and a lot of it was totally unnecessary.

With that said, I have to admit I wasn't a big fan of it either. Just line up and shake hands. Have a few words with their coach about what you thought was unsportsmanlike play by his players and leave it at that. Not lining up to shake hands is kind of a douchey move.

Maybe. maybe not. If this move kept anything from happening during the handshakes, then it was smart but I guess we will never know. In the end, no big deal. No broken bones, no embarrassing fights. On to the next game.

How do you expect a fiery coach from Phili to react to a teams bush league antics in a game that had already been decided? Fran is who is, if you don't know that by now I can't help ya. Love Fran, love that he has his players backs - even the ND coach said they don't teach that type of play and that he would "handle" it within his own doors with the player in question. "Oh no, Fran looks like a dick in the media" is said every season, doesn't seem to be hurting the program so far in recruiting or play. Fran is the man and sportsmanship is the least of his problems. You guys don't want a passionate competitive coach who doesn't take any shit? Go watch someone else.

all you snowflakes need to get over it

Hey I don't think it was a big deal. Just didn't like the move is all. Even Fran came out and said he regretted it this morning. He's a players coach. He had their back. He's intense and he's in the moment. I could totally see myself doing the same thing. I had a few 15 yard penalties called on me back in my football days because I struggled to contain my competitiveness after the whistle had blown. I have no room to talk. Hindsight is always 20/20 though. In the end, I love Fran's intensity and fire. It's what makes him him, and he's a damn good basketball coach.

I see many comments on here that sound like whinny little kids reacting like someone stole your Basketball and ran home with it. Oooo they played sooooo physical, it hurt my feelings whaaa..my goodness MAN UP!!

What Fran did last night after the game was Classless!

If we lost to a team on the road and that team refused to shake Iowa's players' hands, there would be quite an uproar on this board about how classless the other team was to not shake our player's hands. You know it's true.

I like Fran and appreciate his fire, but he whiffed on sportsmanship last night. He got it right this morning in admitting he was wrong about it.

Don't think my reply is colored by the school I played for, but I thought this was Fran having a temper tantrum, taking his ball and going home. Sure things were rough, and they stole the ball with three seconds left in a game that was over. Show some class and go through the motions of congratulating the team you just beat.

It is odd for a player to try to aggressively taken a ball out of an opponent's hands with 3 seconds left, to try to score in a 15 point game...and then have the coach try to get the basket to count...more weird than anything else.

Fran should have shook hands and laughed...and walked away.

Disagree 100%. There would have been a brawl after the game. Tempers were HOT. Their coach, Jones, was dropping F bombs and acting like a complete idiot.

Fran was protecting his players. You missed the whole point of it. Fran was very clear about this in his post-game statements.

The ND players play as a reflection of their coach. And yes, we would have kicked their ass in the post-game confrontation, which was going to happen if there hadn't been a separation of the teams.

Good move by Fran. Why get a kid injured or suspended before the start of the Big Ten season??

Agreed...

That wasn't what happened at all. Our players were ready to kick their ass. Fran avoided a confrontation. It isn't about manhood, it is about an intelligent coach wanting to get off the floor and get ready for the Big Ten season.

Jones, their coach, was blowing a gasket about Bohannon

Yes, that's true in the hypothetical, but Fran would not allow a player to do that at the end of the game, so it remains only a hypothetical.

Bottom line...glad Fran walked off...Don't want Cook's finger re-broken. ND punks aren't worth it.

JB not putting up with the hood move is also on my "like" list. Snark.
