Norm's Last Year as Iowa DC?

When Norm couldn't coach for a few games...Phil Parker and Coach Wilson took over as co-dc...I think this would be the ideal move...Both of those guys are GREAT teachers and have a deep passion for the game.

Wasn't their worst loss in 8 years the one at ASU that Norm couldn't travel to? just sayin.....

You mean Norm not being there also had an influence on the O only having around 100 yards of total offense in the middle of the 4th quarter?

There were a lot more problems with that game then the D, this is a horrible example.

Hopefully they dont lose every game 44-7 next year without Normy

Implying Norm's absence led directly to a 40 point loss is laughable

I'm guessing they'll let Norm have some input on who he'd like to see replace him. I would trust any candidate that he and Coach Ferentz felt was the right fit for the job. My feeling is that it will be someone already on the staff, although Ron Aiken's name coming up wouldn't suprise me either.

We have been blessed with a freakish amount of stability in the Iowa program. The same OC and DC for the entire run of Kirk? Name any other coach who has been in a job that long that can say that. Kirk will make sure the next man in continues the work of Norm and plays Iowa defense, Im not worried one bit.

Legendary shoes to fill. I am thankful he has given so many years to the Hawks.

Amplified it for you, Rocket!

Nobody on earth can duplicate the Norm presence and mystique (not to mention, sense of humor). But I know KF will make a great choice for replacement.
Also, I have to disagree with a post above: having co-DCs would be a huge mistake. It's fine as a temp situation, but full-time? No. It has to be one guy giving direction.

Dan McCarney would be epic, the hawkeye who lost his way finally comes back home.

McCarney would be the ultimate hire, Ron Aiken would not be far behind. Quite a few years ago when Ferentz started to get offers for the NFL Ron Aiken was among the names that would come up as a possible head coach.

What you are saying here is one of the reasons that Tom Osborne had the success he did while at Nebraska.

It will hurt and we know defense has been our strength, but I get the feeling Norm has groomed his guys well and let them run.
