Norm's Last Year as Iowa DC?

I would love Ron Aiken as DC and I think its a real possibility.
The Arizona Cardinals chose to opt out of the Coaches Pension Fund, which means RA will probably be looking to come back to CFB.
One of the biggest draws to be an NFL assistant is the NFL Coaches Pension Fund. If thats gone, why would you put in all of those hours for what amounts to minimal additional pay?
My second choice would be Phil Parker, then Wilson.

If I was to bet, I'd say that Phil Parker and Ron Aiken would be considered the top candidates for the job.

Regardless, anybody who gets the nod for the job will be a guy who knows our system inside and out.

When Norm couldn't coach for a few games...Phil Parker and Coach Wilson took over as co-dc...I think this would be the ideal move...Both of those guys are GREAT teachers and have a deep passion for the game.

Going the co-DC route is the wrong direction to go. It's like too many chefs in the kitchen. You want for there to remain a single vision and identity for the D. The co-DC route could bifurcate that ... and that wouldn't be good.

If this really is Norm's last year, I'm gonna miss him. I'm sure that Kirk will find a great replacement, though...

well thats unlike the coaching staff. I was expecting this to happen after signing day. I thought that's when KF liked to make coaching changes.

Expletive! Expletive! Expletive! Sigh. Knew this day was coming but still not looking forward to it. I like the idea of winning the whole thing for Norm.

I always thought Phil Parker would be a very realistic canidate for this job when Norm decided to put up the headset. He has been with norm for a very long time and has learned his system inside and out no doubt about it, plus Phil has some fire in him. Hes a great coach and would make a great DC.

Didn't Kirk say he knew nothing of this in his 'on the side interview' and that he thought Norm would let him know first???

I can't listen to the audio at work, but it wouldn't surprise me if KF did say that. Rob hasn't exactly had the best of luck trying to break news the last month or so and it started with him saying bet the house on Uthoff signing with Iowa. Just today he tweeted Derby was going to LB and KF said he was staying at QB and now this about Norm, Rob needs to find new sources of information.

Just because Ferentz denies at a presser, doesn't mean this things aren't true or won't end up being true.

Let's take the "wait and see" approach to both of these and stop throwing the guy under the bus. Rob does a great job and is right more often than wrong.

Fair enough, I did see where Norm will be in the press box this year, so I guess that could be a sign that he will be done.

Ferentz says if Norm is retiring he wishes he would have said something to him. Said he will drive him to work if Norm loses his license.

per twitter

KF is a master at stuff like this. It could be true but KF and Norm will announce it on their timeline. I could also see this story being blown out of proportion....maybe Norm said this might be his last season. My guess is his decision is based on his health and that is impossible to predict
