I know the schedule was made long ago. So maybe NDSU is as good as many Big Ten teams - that's great, but if you beat them it means nothing for rankings or strength of schedule.

If we want to play a challenging Div 1 oponent early - I'm fine with that.

But these types of games have to go away forever.

Yeah this is on the Barta, no way I honor a game vs a consecutive 5X FCS champion. Nothing to gain, I cancel this game in February, and try to schedule a creme puff. Barta should've never let this happen, good luck matching the revenue you would've made without this disaster.
 
Just beat the inferior opponent you're supposed to and it doesn't matter. Problem for Iowa is they have a hard time doing it.

I bet NDSU doesn't use three consecutive tough and emotional games against ranked opponents next week against #3 ILL ST.
 
Since Iowa is "destined" to lose an OOC inferior MAC/FCS opponent why not schedule a power 5 opponent and take a loss like a man. At least you get "credit" for losing to a higher power 5.

It's funny because I was thinking about how rare it is that Kirk has gone undefeated in the non conference before the game. I was thinking "wow this will be two years in a row after he's only done it 3 other times in the previous 16 years". Lol at me for thinking that would happen.

Sorry, but disagree with OP.

Iowa is always going to be playing teams/programs with less talent and more to gain (say, like Purdue at the end of a year, etc).

You simply take care of business. Do what you do and win the thing.

To only compete at one's best when one has a chip on their shoulder is ludicrous. That seems to be Iowa's schtick and when we are playing a "lesser" opponent, we seem to flail.

Need to get past that.

I get what everyone is saying but I'd say we had more to gain in this game than we did against ISU or Miami. Those two teams are terrible and did nothing to prepare us for the big ten. NDS at least gave us a challenge, exposed are weaknesses and gave us some things to work on in practice. IMO this game will benefit us down the stretch more than the first two games did.
 
Really the only way this loss hurts us is if we end up 11-1 and don't make the playoffs or 5-7 and don't make a bowl. The first one isn't really realistic and does anyone really care if we win 5 games or 6? Also am I the only one who would rather win 6 games than 7? I'm half joking, but that buy out is ridiculous.

Exactly what I was going to say. The results of the game show more underlying team issues than scheduling issues. The team would be exposed later anyway so it doesn't matter.

In actuality, those who really know football know that having NDSU on the schedule is much better than having a low rated P5 team on the schedule, like an IA State or Kansas, Vanderbilt. Now, if scheduling a mid or top tier P5 team and taking a loss, that I may agree with as that is different. There is a threshold where NDSU falls into place as a better team to have.

Unless you are going to schedule NDSU every year then your point fails.

What is bad about putting a Texas school on the schedule every year and go home/away with them, lose every 3 of 4, but use that to get 1-2 Texas skill position players and maybe a 4-star every 4-5 years.

More "excitement" and "props" and recruiting for losing to a TCU, Baylor, A&M than a "W.Mich, N.Ill, or NDSU.

KF can still get to bowl playing a higher echelon power 5 school because the Hawks are already dropping an OOC game every season anyway -- to an inferior opponent. Who knows, schedule an LSU-type and maybe we get lucky one year, make a 36 yd FG as time expires, and beat the #1 FBS team and get the benefits of that for a season or two.

Crazy. I know.

That's what I am saying, schedule a mid or top tier P5 school. We are agreeing on the same point. The point I was making before is that if a team chooses to schedule a crappy P5 team, that it would be just as good or better to have NDSU than said crappy team.
