NO read option please. Agree?

The only thing close to a "read option" QB we've had under KFz was Brad Banks. CJ is a pro-style pocket QB who's mobile.

As my good friend Al said tonight,

I'm old enough to remember when 'read option' was just called 'option'

Sorry hawkdrummer..hate to disagree, but, CJ can shake and bake down field. I don't like the idea of read option for him, but he could gain yards. However, I much prefer him in the pocket or a rollout. Also, wouldn't mind a slide once in awhile. Just, no r option.

In the Greg Davis presser, he mentioned the moving passing game (sprint out, bootleg, etc.) as an area they did not execute well through the 1st half of the schedule, and hence an area of focus over the bye week. It will be interesting to see what changes are made coming out of the bye.

I am with you on wishing Beathard would slide more often (gotta think long-term sometimes), but it is pretty inspiring when he just goes balls-to-the-wall as well. I am sure that is why the team seems to rally behind him.

Okay, now I get it. Ferentz is using the bye week to install the no huddle spread read option offense. That offseason trip to the coaches clinic in Oregon is beginning to make sense right about now. Maryland lost to West Virginia by a ton of points earlier this year, so clearly the staff thought this was the right time to install the offense. We are talking full on Oregon/Baylor style reinvention next week, jet tempo, speed options, skid marks down the sidelines where the return guy who motioned into the h-back spot takes the double reverse for a housecall kind of stuff.
I was at another public Internet outlet. Response was so slow and why this post was originally garbled..

Anyway, this tongue in cheek post I quoted sure is conservative. Is this you, Kurt Derthatsfootball?

Every season they tease us with the same questions during fall practice: Is this the year Kirk and Co. open up the offense? Is this the year he feels the heat and makes some changes? Is this the year he has the personnel to go for it?

Well guess what, NEXT WEEK WE WILL FINALLY GET THE NEW OFFENSE!!!!! Its coming folks, get ready to jet tempo, volleyball passes to the sweeping wideout, making the defense tired, this is the new brand of football.
