NOT ranked in AP Top 25. Played 9 BIG games, plus 2 decent bowl teams (ISU NILL), and ONLY 25 points from being undefeated. (Next best team in BIG is OSU—29 points).

Penn State concerns me. They are NOT the 14th best team in the country and will be punching well above their weight in their bowl game.

They will be likely be giving up a substantial advantage in the coaching matchup as well.

That may be one of those games where the viewer has to turn their heads if they don't like the accident scene.

I honestly don't know anyone who expects the Hawks to be rated after failing in three critical games in a row.
Don't ever forget that in the eyes of 99% of all sports writers in the country, Iowa is nothing more than Midwestern blah-blah...give us one scoop of vanilla and hold the sprinkles.
Think of how many frickin' times each year we hear from an announcer "With Iowa, what you see is what you get..."

It's been far too many years now since we heard during any game that the Hawks were The Bullies of the B10!
The only real non-condescending thing they can ever seem re-hash each week about Iowa is how nice the Wave is and how many years KF has been our HCFL

(Head Coach for Life).

Looks like we clock in at #31 in the others receiving votes sections.....close.....

#11 on Sagarin. #25 in Massey College Football Ratings. Those are more relevant polls than the AP Top 25, which no one pays attention to anymore.

We would beat everyone one of those teams up to LSU. We would beat a few of those teams below LSU...and we would play everyone close, save Alabama, Georgia, and maybe Clemson.

Iowa’s “signature win” of 2018 the Iowa State Cyclones?

What signature win could we have possibly had? ISU is 7-4, NIU is 7-5, the rest of our wins are .500 and below teams. Had we beaten NW, they'd have been 7-5, Wisconsin would have been 6-6, Purdue 5-7, even PSU would have been only 8-4.

The schedule was so weak that there really weren't any signature wins to be had, unless you count PSU.

Analytically, Iowa does look like a top 25 team, maybe even top 15. Iowa finished tied for #12 in the Power 5 in point differential and inside the top 25 in the FBS. Iowa was also only out gained against Wisconsin and Purdue. If you take out the last 33 yard TD run by Wisconsin after the game had pretty much been decided, then Iowa was only out gained one time. They were also only less efficient on a yards per play basis against Purdue and Penn State. At no point were they definitively worse than anyone they played. As many people have noted, this should have been a 10 win team and their ceiling was higher than all but Ohio State, Michigan, and maybe Penn State in the Big 10 this season. The problem is that 8-4 is 8-4 and two of those losses came to unranked opponents and only one of those wins came against a ranked opponent. Two of those losses were also at home in high stakes "revenge" games. If you want respect, you have to earn it and that's why Iowa isn't in the top 25 right now.
