No Night Games for Iowa Again This Year

I dont get it. I can see why Iowa doesnt get a home game because of the poor schedule in September and October but the Hawks should challenge for the Western Division crown. I figured we would at least get an away game on BTN at night.

A couple quotes from the article...

"Iowa fans undoubtedly will be disappointed with no Big Ten prime-time games for the second consecutive season, as the Hawkeyes are a legitimate contender in the West Division. The problem likely is a schedule with the two most appealing games -- Wisconsin and Nebraska -- at the very end, when weather is a bigger factor. "

And...

"Additional November prime-time games could be announced, so stay tuned. "

We can still hold out hope that the game vs the badgers may get the night game. If that were to happen... What a party that'd be.

The most attractive Iowa games are Wisky and Nebraska, which are the last two weeks of the season, or too late for night games. Which specific Iowa games do you think should be night games?

I would agree that the MSU at Maryland game on Nov 15 is a surprise.

Technically it's not too late for a night game...

From OP's article:

"The league previously avoided such games based on the preference of its members, not a conference-wide policy, as you've probably been led to believe."

Although it was fairly uncommon; with MSU/Maryland & OSU/Illinois playing in November, it's a sign that the tide may be turning, regarding November night games.

I understand that RU and Md are going to get more BTN exposure than warranted to try to get cable co.'s out there to put BTN on their basic packages. Makes sense to try to hook them in right away, hence the RU vs PSU and RU vs Mich games at nite on BTN.

I suspect that Wis. and Iowa taking a pass on nite games allowed the newbies to get two.
Now, maybe Iowa -Wis will be a nite game eventually.

Just give us mostly 2:30 starts and I am happy. Please, not all 11 oclock starts.

This is just a start. The movement to "create" relevance in the BT will be in an easterly direction, with our commissioner looking for more butts in front of the tv and better rankings for the BT. Remember, there was little argument this time around about going to an east/west configuration for the two divisions. Last time it was all about balance. The western division will become an afterthought for our commissioner. If you really want to screw up the works, wait to see if PSU falls apart due to their well deserved punishments, wait to see how long Urban hangs around as OSU, wait to see if Michigan will remain a second class citizen in the W/L column, wait to see if MSU is a flash in the pan. If Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska can become real threats and the west wins a couple of BT championships, it might screw up Delany's plans. In the meantime, the big three or four in the east will run rough shod over Maryland, Rutgers, Illinois, the convenient "breathers" in conference play. The west will be more balanced and will beat up on each other, especially if Minny and NW continue to be a threat. The result: Higher poll rankings for the powers in the east; more tv revenue in the eastern big city markets; easier schedules for the more powerful teams in the eastern division; more money to travel to bowl games.
Get ready for a wild ride!

I'll lead the charge to secede from the conference if they marginalize Iowa's division. Might as well just take our side, add Mizzou and call it the Big 8.

The TV lineup is Delany's response to how Barta has done thus far in complying to his "encouragement" nearly a couple years ago for all BIGs to increase their non conf strength of schedule moving forward.

First of all the only two matchups Iowa has that would make any buzz nationally would be the last two... And I wouldn't want to shiver my *** off that time of year if they did have it at night. Second of all. I just prefer the 11 am games. It doesn't turn into as much of an all day affair that way. I hate sitting around all day long anticipating them playing while every other team is it drives me nuts.

I wish we could get some noon or 1pm starts. Michigan st played a home game last year on Btn that started at 1pm. They are going to have to get creative with start times with 14 teams. You can't have seven 11 am games on at the same time. Hopefully more late afternoon slots too like 3,4,5 start times. Probably wishful thinking though

I am little surprised by this, as Iowa should contend for the West.

Just wanted to bump this as I have read that Barta thinks Delany had a little something to do with the night schedule this year. The TV contract negotiations are coming up and it is Barta's thought that Delany wants as many highly rated night games as possible to try and get more money out of the networks when it comes time to ink a new TV deal.

Hence the high number of night games for OSU, Michigan, PSU and Nebraska, all who draw the largest national numbers of B1G schools.

Someone should corner GarBar about this while the crew makes the Iclub circles this spring/summer.

Does anyone have plans to attend any upcoming events? Take him to task!!!
