I think people forget how wide a range of folks that a show like that is being catered to. Their demo is probably 14-50ish. With the ones that matter being the recruits that use that as a learning mechanism about a place. Now granted it's a small window but when kids see and get a feel for an atmosphere at the schools on there it makes an impression. It's free advertising for the school and they even have the coaches come on to get free air time. So them not coming and to brush it aside as if it don't matter to YOU is one thing. To say it don't matter isn't remotely true there's always the next young group of folks watching...
