No Gameday Next Week

I don't really disagree, but really, where should they have gone instead? There aren't any "marquee" games next week so they had to go somewhere. Kinda makes sense for them to go to a high profile place they've never been to try to drum up interest in a city that normally isn't very interested.

Its not much different than the NFL going to London and Mexico, or the MLB going to Australia, Japan and Mexico.

Or Big10 Basketball tournament at MSG.

Thought I saw somewhere Herbie and Fowler were going to do the Penn State game....is this incorrect? Tight schedule to do Game Day and get to Iowa City in time for telecast. Didn't the talent come to the game site a day or two in advance to gather background in the past?

Fowler I'm sure will get there a day early or so since he doesn't do Gameday any longer. Herbie will fly a private jet to Iowa City right after Gameday ends. Should make it in time.

I guess to me Gameday was always about showcasing games fueled by the energy of the fans. I don't think you get that anywhere other than actually being on campus.

Me too - I feel like that can be a distraction and Iowa's still a pretty young squad - I like this game flying under the radar at least a lil bit

And see I'd kinda like to get Wadley some love he deserves. I think the nation needs a reminder that he's still here and if he were to go toe to toe with Barkley on that stage I think that'd be a fun thing to see talked about and have happen.

Wadley went toe-to-toe, literally, with Julius Peppers last year....and Peppers is still trying to locate his jock strap....

Saturday night ABC game will do that regardless of gameday

I honestly didn't give a rat's ass whether they came to Iowa City or not. But I just shake my head at them going to New York City. No one there gives a shit about college football. And to see the press release from ESPN talking about the "rich college football history" in New York City had me laughing out loud. The brass over there just doesn't get it....at all.

I certainly wish Gameday would have came. The publicity never hurts.

But as another poster said, I'm liking the idea of this game flying a little bit under the radar. Unranked Iowa Team vs Top 5. PSU coming off a 41-14 win. I'm sure the 41-14 loss has been a motivator this week for the Hawks.

There's no doubt PSU is a better team and probably 7 out of 10 times wins this game. But I'll give us at least a 30% chance.... maybe even 40% with it being played at Kinnick under the lights.

At Kinnick, under the lights, with Barkley's "Their guys quit" comment posted all over the practice facility, with KF's history against PSU, with KF's history of big upsets....I'd say we've got a damn good chance....

I was feeling confused because I felt for sure they used to do Gameday from times square before they started to travel so much, but then I realized I was actually remembering the old John Saunders ABC post-game show that was broadcast from the ESPN zone in Times Square.

P.S. I miss John Saunders, may he rest in piece.

I think it's pretty stupid that they are in NYC, but I'm not upset that they aren't coming to Iowa City. It's never seemed to end well for us when they did. Wouldn't be funny if Hawkeye fans still made a prominent showing at College GameDay's set despite being in NYC?
