No Epenesa, No Pass Rush!

In all fairness, wasn't it AJ who took the fake and went to the middle while the RB went wide for a big play?
2 distinct plays stick out for me regarding contain...

On the play where Barkley's knee may or may not have gone down, that was a Barkley jump cut to AJE's side and he lost contain by not keeping his outside shoulder free. That's a youthful mistake.

On another play in the 3rd quarter (I think), PSU ran a wrap read play where the LT pulls to the right to lead/trap/kick for the QB while Barkley takes a handoff sweeping left. Big time split flow constraint play...AJE didn't really play either player aggressively, although he probably took McSorely a little more than he did Barkley. If AJE's responsibility is on contain, he blew that one. If it's dive, then the LB responsible for the alley needs to be out there (he was not). In most coaching circles if that left tackle steps down or pulls to the right, the RDE is going to step down with him to close C gap. My complete guess is that AJ was supposed to take Barkley but his eyes deceived him and it slowed him down to process...Barkley doesn't need much time and he didn't take much either, easily gaining the left edge.

I think it was a classic "take the good with the bad" game for him, and one in which I feel as though the good definitely outweighed the bad. Here's to hoping they take him off his "pitch count" the rest of the season because with a little bit more technique seasoning, he'll be even more of a force to be reckoned with by season's end.

I get that, and I kind of thought the coaches should have stuck him back in. Yet to say what TK did, is kind of silly. Nelson is very good, and Hesse makes plays as well. How many other DE have 2 picks with one being a pick six?
Your effort to antagonize me will fail. :)

epenesa played about 40 snaps. That is pretty good. Also, other guys were getting pressure, Nelson, Brinks and they caused pressure on some blitzes.

Isn't that a little like saying "she has a great personality"? "He doesn't get pressure very often, but he has 2 picks!" Just as with personality w/ girls, picks from DE's are probably not the thing most look for...

Oh, and

I think saying that if AJ was in there for the last 4 plays we win is very disingenuous.

Since nobody made this claim, your statement is the disingenuous one...

( tk implied AJ may have made a difference, but that's not the same thing )

But most of the dl made plays Saturday, so AJ vs Hesse is a moot point. Bazata is the one who should be in danger of losing reps. When was his last tfl? Invisible for as long as I can remember.

Or, just looking at the last play, Taylor was useless. And, reading Johnson's comments, predictably useless!

TK implied what he implied, and I can conclude whatever I want.

DE aren't going to get penetration on every play. When they don't they have to do other things, like get their arms up in passing lanes. Hesse is a good enough athlete that he not only gets his arms up, he has 2 picks. If you wanna bash him for that, don't let me get in the way of letting you sound like an idiot.
