No 5 Stars In This 2.2 Million Square Mile Area

This puts it in perspective how few there are.

And before anyone posts that stars don't matter... 1) I know, 2) it's not the point.

Wow. A couple of observations, Boise St has done a great job of getting west coast kids, maybe not 5 stars but they are really good athletes. If boise can get some we should be able to.

Two, maybe we should be recruiting upper New England if there are some 4-5 stars there.

I'm curious what BSU's admissions requirements are compared to your standard B1G/Pac-12 school. I could only find a calculator on their site for "normal" students, not student-athletes. Could be reduced requirements gets athletes that west coast P5 teams won't admit to their schools?

So, the good ones are dumb? That's what you're saying?

No. He's asking a question. That's why he used question marks.

I know you know what they are since you used them to answer his question with questions.

What kind of a preconceived viewpoint about "the good ones" do you have that would cause you to answer his question like that?

That is a good point. Many a student athlete has not had the scores or grades to attend Iowa or other Big 10 schools.

The thing about entrance requirements just isnr there unless in the Big Ten unless u are Nw.

We're just little ole Iowa. We can't expect to be able to get 4 and 5 star players. We offer top pay, have top notch facilities, there are no expectations here, Kinnick is packed no matter how bad we are, but we should expect 2 and 3 star players, nothing better. We shouldn't expect a coaching staff to be able to recruit them either. We're just Iowa.

Back in the day it was easier to recruit Florida and Texas. Now pretty much every div 1 football game is televised so that's not a selling point anymore. Most kids that grew up in warm weather won't want to come play at Iowa if they have any other option. Iowa winters suck. Most kids out of state won't want to sit on the bench at Iowa if they can play right away somewhere else. Back in the day this coaching staff took chances on kids that were higher stars but had either questionable character or scholastic issues. Said coaching staff got burnt doing it enough that they stopped rolling the dice on those type kids.

When you get the best in state kids but compete with the rest of the mid tier big ten teams for the cast offs in Ohio and Michigan. And when you can't work them out as hard as you used to because of a rhabdo incident you end up with the talent that Iowa has.

We are fortunate to have a web site like this available though. So all of the frustrated arm chair QB's can come and let the world know what's what instead of having to relieve their tension by beating their animals/wives/children.

I buy the Iowa winters up to a point. The winters in Madison are far from tropical. Seems Wisky has figured out a work-around that, namely a program that actually contends more than once every 5 years. Funny thing about 4 and 5 star players, most of them want to play for teams that get in championship games on a regular basis. Which all ties into the nonstop 24/7/365 recruiting of the best athletes a P5 program ( with the deep pockets Iowa has) can get. And that is only accomplished with a recruiting staff with no coaching duties at all. Ever.

In addition, players have no problem dealing with the cold in Council Bluffs if it means they put in a season or two and get a scholly @ a decent P5 program.

Take a look at Wisconsin's recruiting rankings sometime. It's not like they're bringing in many 5 stars.

Back before planes it was a real pain. When Scotty can beam us up we are in real trouble. I do believe Wisky beamed up more than one from Florida. Maybe gold turf would help. Sort of look like sand. Having a reallh conservative mind om offense will really pull in 4 stars. Being big fast line backer will love blitzing everry 3rd game. I can just feel the excitement.

No, I'm saying that one of the reasons that BSU may get some stellar athletes, is if their admissions standards are lower than the Pac12 or B1G, they may get the athletes that didn't qualify for a P5 school. In no way did I imply that all good ones are dumb, but it's certainly a possibility that some of them went to BSU because of admissions requirements.

That just isn't an argument. It's embarrassing for Iowa to call out other schools. At the 75th percentile, Boise ACT score is 26. Iowa joins other outstanding Big universities such as MSU and Nebraska at 28 and trail academic giants Purdue and IU at 30. It might be a problem at some CA schools but I imagine they get what they want. UA and ASU are 27 and 28. OR and OR State are 27.

Interesting to see the absence in north and central Texas with all the talk about that being such an important recruiting area.
