NIT better for this team?

I think its better to go to NCAA, but I appreciate how this team chose to shake the disappointment and embrace the challenge that was in front of them and they are playing like it's the most important thing. That will serve them well.

A 24th win puts this team in rarefied air as it would tie us for #3 overall for wins in a season.

A 25th ties us for 2nd and...

...a 26th win puts this team as the 2nd winning-est team ever.

Imagine that!

Hopefully Fran has his notebook out right now and figures out how to schedule teams like this for our out of conference next year... And we be dancin next year.

7th. bad math dude. would you give some hobo 7 oxy's when he only needs 5? ;)

what hobo can afford oxy's?

If that person has already succumbed to living on the streets, he's probably already swallowed his pride and switched to regular old H.

I watch a lot of intervention.

you're right, hydro's are a much better analogy. sudafed even better.

Explain what you mean by "a 1 and done in the NCAA (most likely)" please,?

I just don't think we're quite good enough to win/close one out against a 3-4-5 seed on a neutral court, this year, with this team, considering our 0-5 in closing out close games.

We'd be playing a bit over our heads (out-kicking our coverage) if you will.

Next year will be completely different IMO.

Playing in the NIT is somewhat akin to playing an easy OOC schedule (albeit, at the end of the year). Not a bad thing considering this team's youth.

No. Is the Godaddy.com bowl better than the Rosé Bowl because it's played a week later?

It's always better to go to the big tournament.

Not even close to apples to apples.

Each team gets 15 practices for bowl prep, regardless when the game is played. Each team only gets 1 bowl game.

Keep winning in basketball and you get more games and more practices.

All that being said, I would rather the team go to NCAA Tourney and lose right away.

No because it is still only 1 more game and the teams in both bowls still only get 15 practices no matter when the game is played.

You are missing the point. Iowa will be playing on Wednesday night, if they made the NCAA tournament they would have played last Tuesday or Wednesday in Dayton. If they had lost that game this team would have been done last week and as it is right now they get an extra week of practice and 2 extra games. You may not agree but those 2 games and the week of extra practices will be more beneficial to this team for next year then going and getting beat in Dayton Ohio last Tuesday or Wednesday.

I highly doubt any teams that have lost in the NCAA tournament to date went back home and practiced.

I do find this run more fun than our tourney "run" in 2006.

This is so true. That's why I don't get when people say they would rather lose in the first round of the NCAA then win the NIT. I get it that people would rather "take their chances" in the NCAA rather then win the NIT, but why would anyone want to for sure lose the first game over winning the NIT? I'm having a blast still watching them play.

Pat Forde was on the Dan Patrick show the other day and they both agreed they'd rather win the NIT than lose in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. I tend to agree with this, especially for this team.

Any of the purists here still glad the NCAA didn't increase the field to 96? Not me. Those extra 28 slots would come in handy for Iowa basketball a couple of times a decade imo.

Have to agree to disagree.

Purist here for sure. NCAA should be reserved for only the "best and brightest" (Yes, I'm opposed to the auto bids)

There's the NIT and the CIT and the CBI for those teams "left out" of the NCAA.

No reason to water down the NCAA.

I vote for the NIT,for this team, which is young and still maturing. If we were a senior dominated team, not so much. We play 10-11 guys,so we need minutes, and playing 5 extra games provides game action minutes for everyone. Next year, NCAA run.

I am enjoying watching bonus Hawkeye bb....keep it going Hawks!!
