nine game big ten schedule is coming

sounds like very serious considerations to nine game season per Delaney. Want to play conf foes more not less. If this happens say goodbye to Iowa v Iowa State IMO

It did sound that way, didn't it? I'm surprised no one has asked the obvious question about scheduling for next year.

hmmm...why would that be? The vibe I usually get from ppl on here is that ISU is a cupcake to be classed with the 1-AA teams...why throw away a sure win game???

I don't think we'll get rid of Iowa State. We "should" be beating them 3 out of 4 times. And if you look at the series over the last 30 years that is probably about the average.

The game means to much to the state as a revenue generator too.

If you go to a nine game conference schedule, that means you're playing five road games every other year. Iowa isn't going to want to lose that 7th home game.

Follow me on this - unless the new schedule just happens to give Iowa four conference home games in even years - years where ISU comes to Kinnick - it's very possible that this series goes away.

With the Big 12 moving to a nine game schedule, ISU is in the same boat.

We have Nebraska now. We need more home revenue.

Not sure i like it....so some teams get 5 home games and others 4 during conf play? Yuck.

It would be the same for everyone. Five home games one year, four the next. You just have to make sure that in the years where you only have four, that all three (unless the conference expands the schedule) non-con games are home games.

Your lips to God's ears, Jon.

At the very least we might be able to force ISU into the 3-1 or the 2-1-off I have been advocating for years.

That is, once they figure out that selling out their stadium once every four years would be better than never selling out their stadium.

Good point. Just not sure i will the unbalance each year within the conf. schedule.

Point 1: If ISU wants to somehow go to a bowl game in the new Little 12 they do not want to schedule Iowa any longer.

Point 2: Do not be surprised when the B10 does not allow any B10 team to schedule ND as a non conference opponent.

I can't get this straight in my head... In a given year, how do ALL teams in the conference play 5 home games, and 4 road games? For each conference game, there is a home team, and a road team.

For the sake of argument, let's just say it's a 2-team league, with each team playing the other 9 times. If team A has 5 games at home, that means team B has 5 games on the road, yes?

Or am I just being dense? :D

I agree with this. The only way this series will continue is if ISU and Iowa are on opposite 5/4 home games schedules. That way they can host the game on the 4 conference home game year. That way they will all be guaranteed 7 home games.

I wouldn't be surprised if this goes to at most a 2 out of every 4 year deal. Otherwise there really isn't any way for either school to schedule any other home and home series.

you don't play every team every year...so im assuming that somehow that works out to the 5/4 every other year equation...not sure though, I hate any type of mathematics

Why does everyone NOT want to play ISU? Its fun and you get to talk to your neighbors that you only nod to the other 51 weeks of the year. Yea, it makes things difficult, but it also provides momentum (both ways). The teams just need to schedule it opposite their 5/4 home/away years so that it balances.

The B10 isn't going to prohibit any team from playing any other team, EVER (Exception = Native American mascots). I know it sounds nice to boycott ND, but its just not a reality. Michigan, Purdue, and MSU will continue to play ND as long as they want, but they won't be forced to stop scheduling them.

I like the 9 games schedule (Iowa's schedule sucks when OSU and Mich aren't on it) so that we play more B10 teams more often. Keep ISU and 2 Mid-Conf teams and you have a great schedule.

Delaney sort of mentioned that some schools have home/home series all ready set up, and that the conference would make every effort to make sure those series continue.
