nine game big ten schedule is coming

I would love to continue to play ISU every year, but if u look at it right now, ISU has everything to gain from that game, and we have everything to lose. if ISU were a winning team and bowling consistently, this would be a very different situation, but even though ISU always plays us tough, we would gain more by dropping them and playing a big ten team instead, which means more games on National TV against a Nebraska, Michigan, or OSU for example

I can't get this straight in my head... In a given year, how do ALL teams in the conference play 5 home games, and 4 road games? For each conference game, there is a home team, and a road team.

For the sake of argument, let's just say it's a 2-team league, with each team playing the other 9 times. If team A has 5 games at home, that means team B has 5 games on the road, yes?

Or am I just being dense? :D

Because you're not playing everyone every year. Six teams have five home games, the other six have four. Obviously, you'll be playing everyone in your division, so that means you'll be playing four out of the six on the other side. It's possible that the league is doing this to protect some rivalries in case they get split up - Minnesota/Wisconsin for example. The SEC does this; Alabama and Auburn are in different divisions, but that game is protected.

But it wouldn't be a Big 10 team. Iowa would simply schedule three home wins in the non-con.

Why does everyone NOT want to play ISU? Its fun and you get to talk to your neighbors that you only nod to the other 51 weeks of the year. Yea, it makes things difficult, but it also provides momentum (both ways). The teams just need to schedule it opposite their 5/4 home/away years so that it balances.

The B10 isn't going to prohibit any team from playing any other team, EVER (Exception = Native American mascots). I know it sounds nice to boycott ND, but its just not a reality. Michigan, Purdue, and MSU will continue to play ND as long as they want, but they won't be forced to stop scheduling them.

I like the 9 games schedule (Iowa's schedule sucks when OSU and Mich aren't on it) so that we play more B10 teams more often. Keep ISU and 2 Mid-Conf teams and you have a great schedule.

I never stated I didn't want to play them. I just think this game more then likely ends. Also in regards to the B10 prohibiting teams from playing ND, I could see this happen to force ND's hand. I could easily seen Delaney implementing this. If you have some inside connection at the B10 office confirming this willl never happen then so be it but I could see this occurring...

If the Big 10 is going to go to nine conference games, they're not going to get into the business of telling teams who they can and can't schedule in the non-conference.

To play a nine game conference schedule requires a minimum of 10 calendar weeks in order to have traditional games on the last weekend of the regular season. It will be necessary to play some conference games in the third week of the season and possibly the second week. It does put an annual ISU/Iowa game in jeopardy because ISU will also be working under the same circumstances, 9 conference games which will most likely be played over 10 weeks to accommodate OOC games. While not impossible it looks like the series at least won't be annual.

I've been in the camp of occasional games with ISU so if that works out then fine.

Yea,I like this...another league game is good for fans and more programming for the BTN,which is the 600lb gorilla in every decision these days.

Have ISU go to a every other year game...which would still alllow Iowa to schedule home and aways with one other BCS school every other year. I get tired of playing ISU every year....sprinkle in a Pitt, or OK,or maybe Oregon.

It's kind of funny. They should have been doing a 9 game conference schedule since PSU joined so teams wouldn't have to skip 2 opponents every year.

Now 8 games, provided there are 2 divisions in and a conference championship game make perfect sense but they want to go to a 9 game schedule.

yea I saw that with the rivalry games... written somewhere- don't know if it was ESPN or not... but they proposed/talked about a "rivalry" weekend the last week of the year instead of a championship game with two bye weeks. Sorry if that was already mentioned or exhausted even.

We don't need ISU...they need us.

With 9 league games, to stay in a BCS bowl hunt, we need to schedule two gimmees.

Isn't the Big 12 expected to go to a 9 game schedule as well?

Yeah, but they'll be down to 10 teams when it happens - Nebraska and Colorado gone. Thus, it'll be just like the Pac-10, and it'll be a round robin.

9 games in a 12-team league just doesn't make sense. Either leave it at 8, like the Big 12, or go to 10 conference games.

9 is just bleh for scheduling for everybody.
