Nico Law to try for Kirksey's spot next year - does he have the weight??

Law is listed at 200 but he seems bigger than that. Should he try to get on the field as the wide side lnbkr? If he has had trouble at safety he maybe would have less trouble lining up and covering just one guy opposite him, he is a big hitter and fast for the blitz.

Linebacker may be the best bet for him and the hawks.

Thoughts on his size and whether this might work???

I don't think he is disciplined enough to figure out how to play with outside leverage against the run. And not strong/big enough to shed blockers.

There's a safety spot open, and he's been here long enough that he should take it. I trust the coaches are telling him what he needs to do to see the field, and that he will stay at the position that is best for both him and the Hawks. I will say I think he offers a lot more blitz potential than Miller at the safety spot.

Ummmmmm...it's not like we don't need a new free safety next year, too. Why the hell would we move one of our few experienced options at that position to one that he has never played in his life? That weakens two areas on the roster, instead of just one.

I just assumed he wasnt getting the pass coverages as a safety.

He has hardly seen the field the last two years, you have to wonder why?

First I'm going to say is by reading the Topic Title for this thread, the OP made it sounded like he read an article which Nico or a coach said he was in the running for wOLB spot.

Instead we are answering a question like we are playing XBox.

Nico isn't unseating Lowdermilk any time soon. I don't see him as a FS due to his strong run defense ability but average (at best) pass defense ability. He could be one hell of a situational back kind of like a NB but I don't see him being a force at wOLB with Alvis & Davis graduating.

Hey I hope Nico has one great season at the safety spot like Jordan Bernstein did.

Miller was Ok to above avg and played his best ball the last 5 games.

Whoever takes over for Miller if they can play better then all the better for the hawks.

Law plays STRONG safety, not FREE safety. He won't be taking that spot; I'd almost bet the farm on that.

You don't just roll down and play that position. Not happening. He has a chance to compete for the open safety position as a senior. We've seen things like that work out before. The bowl prep will be good for him, especially.

If memory serves me Hitchens played his first season or two at SS. The switch to LB seemed to work out well for him. Hopefully we could catch lightning in a bottle again with Law.

Hitchens played his frost yr as a lb/safety hybrid. Then switched to lb his soph year and didn't play much. Then took over at lb as a starter his jr year. He had 1 full year practicing the spot before playing it. Law wouldn't have that he would be expected to learn the position in less than half a yr as he probably hasn't practiced there at all as he is our back up ss. Plus he would be very small for the spot. He has a shot at playing fs but I am not sold he will win that. Fair has looked ok in the time he has played.

Tanner Miller has struggled this year, minus the NIU game I think Lowdermilk has played well for the most part i have no issues with Lowdermilk.

Agree, this is a terrible and misleading title..It's like posting a title saying, "Kirk Ferentz to retire after the season." Then in the body saying, "Do you think Ferentz might retire this year?

In my opinion people shouldn't do this.

Yeah I should have titled it "should Nico Law" that would have been more appropriate and correct
