Nick Wilson OLB- WDM Dowling

Very familiar with Wilson. He is a terrific kid - an Eric May type who will get better and better and work his butt off. This is a great recruit for Iowa.

The idiots (and I mean idiots in the strongest possible way) posting on this thread who are criticizing this offer don't know what they are talking about.

I watched the kids tape which is all I can go off of since I don't watch Dowling play. The kid is instinctive and seems to have a high football IQ. Sees plays develop and puts himself in position and takes excellent angles and form tackles very nicely. Now the question I have is...Is the kid fast enough to drop back in coverage? The fact that he has no offers tells me there's doubts there. Hard to tell his speed from the video since he's going up against high school kids. People that I know who do watch Dowling say he was a stud player for the team. I would say that the kids has some definite potential and we'll have to see if he has adequate enough athleticism to cover in the B1G. If he does than he could be a solid player.

Winning 2 state titles and having a full ride to your in state big ten school hardly makes you a loser. I'd say, in the game of life...Nick Wilson is winning.

Cincinnati wanted Jansen to gray shirt. They didn't pull the offer altogether. Whatever though...I think he's a good fit having watched him play. Don't know much about Wilson.

Maybe we should recruit kids who have the same attitude as ehawk then we'd never have to worry about winning. Ehawk must get bullied by the little girls at the end of the block so he brings the worst attitude of anybody I've ever seen on this board.

I see MrE got banned. Deservedly so. Good riddance to him.

Welcome aboard Mr. Wilson. Plenty of under the radar Iowa kids have accomplished a lot in Iowa City. With the right work ethic and attitude I don't see any reason why he can't be one of the next. Excited to have him in the black and gold.

This staff is not only recreating the Titanic but it's also tossing out anchors to those in the water ... Good God ... get rid of this staff ... Next year will be Kirk's last year. He knows it ... This recruiting class is right in par with the state of the program and the direction it is heading ... I can honestly say I am sick of Kirk Ferentz and this staff ...

I agree that this class leaves something to be desired. HOWEVER......

I am willing to give KF and staff one more year to bring recruiting around. They'll have a full year of being able to show off the facilities....and guys like Tom Lemming are really talking the facilities up. From all accounts, Junior Day was a big hit. And KF will have had a full year to devote himself "full-time" once again (off the fundraising trail). In addition, the schedule should allow for a minimum of 8-4 next year. At that point, there'll be no more excuses. If we can't have, at a minimum, a Top 30 recruiting class, then it's not going to ever happen again with this staff.

I look forward to seeing what they can bring in.

Didn't we learn anything this season about predicting wins/losses based on strength of schedule.

I think its clear that the staff needs to run their offers past the jury of posters here before going to the admissions office, then making a scholarship offer to a kid.

Couldn't hurt compared to what they're currently doing.

I said that the Pella kid "had" a D1 offer at one point, as opposed to this loser from Dowling that nobody wanted, ever. I guess it took our crack staff months to properly evaluate him, that's why he was offered less than 72 hours before signing day. Uh huh, sure. Something definitely happened with Garbutt in Lincoln, there's no question about that. What it was remains to be seen, but this kid is a giant red flag already. At the rate that we chase quality athletes out of the program, I bet he doesn't last a semester here.

I know one thing. Any kid who gets a scholarship offer to play football at a Big Ten school, ANY Big Ten school, is probably NOT a loser. At least that would be my initial assumption until they do something to prove the contrary. And any anonymous message board poster who calls the kid a loser may very well have not done anything worthwhile in his life, but since he is on a message board he can sound like he is an authority. Even if he HAS done something worthwhile in his life or he is in fact an authority on what he is pontificating about, he may very well be one of the biggest losers on the board.

I personally have a hard time thinking of anyone who calls a hard working high school football player a loser as anything other than a loser. And unlike you, I am actually basing my statement on something concrete, like your actions and statements. But I could be wrong. You might just be an idiot, and not a loser. Or you might just be bad about expressing yourself properly. However, I have very little sympathy for what gets said about someone that calls a high school kid that worked hard enough to get a D1 scholarship a loser.

Recently we've talked about things in Hawkeye land not going our way. With the recent ban of ehawk things are turning the corner.

How many (projected) linebackers does Iowa need in this class, anyway? Are some recruits going to put on 70 LBs, or so, and play the line or 50 LBs, or so, and play TE? Player development.

Dumb question but can't they bank some scholarships instead of what seems like wasting offers on kids who don't appear to ever be able to play at a major college level. Does it completely screw up your numbers if you do something like that?

Thread bump before I head to Pasadena tomorrow. Sounds like Wilson is making some noise at LB. Seems that Choosen was about the only poster who new what a freak athlete Wilson was.

Q. Which younger guys have stepped up?
JOSEY JEWELL: Jack Hockaday. There's Nick Wilson who's popped up. They've been getting better every day, every developmental period we do, after every practice. We just get big drills from them when they come out.

Q. Wilson is crazy, crazy strong.
JOSEY JEWELL: That dude is a freako athlete. He can squat, he can do all the lifting very well. He's kind of freakish in that aspect.
