UI Press Release:

IOWA’S WILSON CITED FOR LEGAL ISSUE

IOWA CITY, Iowa - - University of Iowa football student-athlete Nick Wilson was cited by Iowa City law enforcement officials Saturday evening in Iowa City.

Wilson is a redshirt freshman and a native of Granger, Iowa. He attended West Des Moines Dowling High School and redshirted in 2015. Wilson is not among the 105 team members taking part in preseason camp prior to the start of fall semester classes.

UI athletics department officials are in the process of gathering facts in regards to the incident. Wilson is subject to established university protocol in regards to the UI student life code of conduct and team rules and regulations set for members of the football program.

We haven't heard much about Wilson lately. If I remember right, he was really being talked about as an up and comer, during bowl practices last year. Hopefully, he learns and bounces back better than ever....

Rob, it says he's not part of the 105 team members taking part in fall practices. Does that mean he's not on the team anymore?

No. There's a 105 limit for camp. Once school starts (tomorrow), rosters expand. It is a little surprising he wasn't among the 105 considering he started spring ball in the two-deep. Granted that was at LEO with Niemann out, but LB has a lot of inexperience.

Thanks for the clarification. I was unaware of the limit/expansion.

I guess I feel a little better than you about the LB position with Jewell, Niemann, and Bower all returning. Additionally, Mends got some playing time in the raider package. I viewed the LB as a strength (albeit not as strong as the secondary - but stronger than the Dline).

Don't get mad but why is this big news. The Gazette seems to think they have to put it on Twitter along with everyone else,he's a kid that screwed up like a lot of kids through out the Country.I think we have bigger problems to worry about than putting this kids face on Twitter.JMO

I didn't put it on here until the UI issued a press release. If Iowa sports information in conjunction with the football team puts it out there, I don't think we can question whether or not it's news.

As far as LB, I feel good about the position but there's a lot of inexperience. Jewell, Niemann and Bower are the only upperclassmen.

Outside of CJB, Jewell may be the player we can least afford to lose.

Rumor is he was having academic issues, that is why he was off the 105 for fall camp. If that is true, this is NOT going to sit well with the coaches.

I don't think Lubanza was at camp either (???), which kinda surprises me since he ran with the 2's in the spring, but I understand a new walk-on not going to camp more than Wilson. Deanvog might be on to something there.

Oh, I agree! I think there is a lot of raw talent amongst the Frosh-Soph. but I don't know if any are 'ready' yet. It might not 'kill' us, if Niemann goes down because Bowers can slide to the LEO and Mends should (hopefully) be able to hold down the Will spot and if Bowers goes down, once again we have Mends who has taken a lot of reps at the Will and saw a little mop-up time there last year, so I don't feel like we would be throwing him to the wolves.....but, if Jewell goes down, I think someone is getting 'thrown into the deep end' and hopefully they swim!

I had heard about it being academics but didn't want to put that out there until I confirmed that through the kid or the staff. I was a little surprised to hear that considering he did well at Dowling, which isn't an easy school. But that transition to college can be hard, especially with the distractions.

That sucks... sounds like the kid needs to step back and get his life together... Drinking and driving is no joke. The fact he was driving on a suspended license and I assume he's under age as well? Along with rumored academic issues he probably needs a year of tough love with no football to help him focus on what's important to him.

Well let's not pretend that High School has the same academic oversight as college. I know for a fact a couple kids i went to high school with never passed a single test in a couple classes, yet when basketball season came around, they were always eligible. I'm not saying that's what happened here, but High School academic performance doesn't always equal college performance.
