NEXT YEAR WITHOUT MARBLE

I think Whitey and someone some where mention Jarrod both defer to Dev, and maybe that OK b/c Dev has earned the right to take the tough shot, or the last shot. I think there is a 'pecking' order and Dev is at the top, he's a Sr and has scored a ton of points and has carried them at times.

Moving into next yr, Whitey will be at the top of that list and I do believe that Jarrod is heir apparent. Both are efficient, can get their shots off(albeit in different ways) and both convert at the rim ad at the line, like Dev does.

I think jarrod steps into Devs shoes next yr, albeit behind A Aron.

Disagree. I think Mike takes over the leadership and the go-to role. He'll be the one to lead the rally, he'll be the one getting guys organized. You already can see it to a degree. He may not be the one to take the final shot, but he will be the one with the ball in his hands in closing seconds setting it up. He may kick out to Aaron, he may go to Jarrod, he may fire it inside to Adam or to Peter or whoever is on the floor. Or he may take it himself.

God help Iowa if Gesell is the one who gets fouled with the game on the line.

I see him shooting 50% or less in losses at Iowa state, MSU, and again goes 1-2 vs Illinois in last 90 secs.

How can you possibly have Gesell handle the ball in those moments when he can't make FTs in the late going?

Marble goes into "I'm driving the basket, I'm going to score" mode quite a bit. And I am not complaining about that at all. His aggressiveness is part of what makes Iowa good. But my point is that he doesn't always look to pass. Especially on fast breaks when we may have a two on one look, he's taking it himself every time. And I feel like he usually gets a basket + foul, so I have no problem with it.

But when he's gone next year, I think we will miss his scoring and driving (to accompany his overall aggressiveness). I don't know what his assist numbers are, and I don't really care. When he leaves, we're not going to lose as much as some might think. When he goes into score mode, he doesn't really get anyone else involved. So next year, we're going to need to replace that slashing and fast break aggressive attacker. That's about it as far as replacing marble goes

He was 4/6 from the line against MSU. He was also nearly an 80% FT shooter last year, there's no question that he has struggled from the line at times this year, but hopefully he improves as the year goes on and into next year. White missed several crucial free throws last year and has been much better this year.

I too see this as a concern for next year. Marble is our one guy that can go to the hole or get his shot in crunch time. I think jok has the potential to be this guy down the road but probably not next year. So how do we fill this void next year? Just like we did this year, everyone has to take their game up a notch. White has to be more of a go to, gessel has to take his game up one more level, oleshani has to get better, Woodbury, and jok, all have to pick it up. Use our system with what we have. I think Woodbury is a key. We really have to see him improve next year.

I also think Uthoff is a guy that has the skills to turn into a good scorer and become one of those guys we look to in a pinch. He just needs to step it up and find a way to get himself involved in the offense more.

With Marble gone, I think we'll see other guys step it up a little and score more, out of necessity.

I agree on Jok. He isn't there yet, but he's also a true freshman on a very deep team, so he isn't seeing the floor much this year. I look for that to change next year with a few guys graduating, so I'm hoping he'll have a breakout year as a sophomore.

jok and oglesby together.... I'm guessing Josh O will probably start next year.

Not saying Josh O has been a world beater but that's who I'm guessing will start.

I think we will miss marble more than most realize. Jok may get to his level but he won't make that much of a jump in 1 year. I agree josh will probably start and I think some on here who think josh is a great defender will find out that not to be the case. White can't play the athletic guard types, we found that out when he matched up with Stauskas and josh won't be able to hang and mike is too small. We'll probably see more zone than ever next year.

No one is going to come in and exactly fill Marble's role. The offense will look different next year. I think Woody continues to improve on offense and becomes a double digit scorer, I think Mike makes a big scoring jump as well. I still think we will add at least, one and maybe two, guys who will contribute right away next year too. I think we'll shoot more 3's next year too, probably the most of the Fran era. We'll be different, but still very good. We really need another big, wing defender to step up next season more than anything.

I agree in regards to both mike and woody increasing their production and the biggest concern being on D. We will struggle matching up with teams who have a good SG.

I agree
