Next Iowa Coach

to each their own but I don't see us heading anywhere...I think we have peaked under Fran. I thought this would be the year he pulled it together after seeing the first half of this season...but nope...another historic collapse. The moment was too big for him.

Well, they aren't getting a new coach so this is what we got.

Notre Dame is the only place I see him maybe leaving for but that isn't opening for the foreseeable future.

I don't think he pulls an Alford and walks away unless it's Notre Dame.
Maybe one of the Big East schools out east.

He's not getting fired by Iowa at any time. He's going to walk away on his own.

Christian Williams has excellent potential as a point guard. I have no idea why you think he doesn't. He also has great length and will be a huge plus defensively.

No one can argue against Fran being a mid major square peg anymore.

At the same time, firing him would do nothing beneficial for Iowa basketball and only make the situation worse. Such is the sad, sad state of our program.

I want to be the program that's lauded for mental toughness. That would be cool so, um, lets find a way to do that.
This.

Izzo said Fran finally had a team as tough as him.
Opposing teams "raised" on testing Iowa's toughness.
Iowa players didn't call.

Fran got beat by an interim basketball coach at Wisconsin this year....with arguably one of their weakest teams of late....and at home.....with the Big Ten title on the line. Think about that. Yes, you could say Wisco is playing well and you would be right. But, if not now, when? You could also say he was Bo's right hand man.

That speaks to some limitations.

I question how an Iowa basketball fan in the 2000's, who watched Lickliter's pathetic teams can say this is a sad, sad state. This sucks ***. It isn't fun at all and has been frustrating but this isn't some sad, horrible state. ****, in a couple weeks we could randomly figure things out and all of a sudden be in the sweet 16/ elite 8 this season.

So, disappointing, yes. Sad state? Um, no

Finished tied for 3rd last year and we're in the top 10 for record number of weeks this year (or close top it). And we're in a sad sad state?

That's what I've been saying. the fact that people are torching an Iowa Basketball message board in March says everything to me. People care about Iowa basketball again. Nobody cared about Lickliter's Iowa teams.

Izzo is the gold standard...if we could clone him to Iowa I would. My favorite BIG coach.
I like Izzo, too. I don't know if he could get these players to be tough-minded to win at the end of games and seasons.

Of course, he's never been afraid to put star player(s) on the bench and go with a hungry young guy.
They're either tough and play his way or they can do weak-cheer from the bench.

I wouldn't bet against him...I think he could take an MSU intramural team and win a couple tournament games with them. The guy is Mr. March...when you're playing with real money late in the season...he's gold.

All true. This February Meltdown just muddies the fun of the season -- even if they have out-performed the pre-season expectations.

We could figure it out. But we better figure out how to win by double-digits again.

If sad, sad state is 6/7 seed in the tournament at worst after making the tournament 2 years in a row (1 if you don't count play in games though we shouldn't really have been in the play in game but I digress) what is a program like, I don't know, Rutgers? Having said that, I rather be schooling you fools on why we're a number 1 seed after a frustrating win vs Minnesota instead of debating if we are in a ****** situation vs being in a not that ****** but not that awesome situation.
