NW should be politely shown the door. They do not belong in this conference with respect to major athletics. And, sorry, that is what is driving the boat these days. Their shiny new Texas High School Stadium just proved this very point.
I have so many thoughts about this stadium lol.
It looks super cool in pictures but the pictures make it look WAY bigger than it's going to be. Yeah, a covered stadium with an NFL feel, super close to the field, etc...but 35,000 people? It's not going to be loud enough to feel like a college game. Visiting fans are going to be the majority in a lot of games like Iowa, nebraska, Michigan, OSU, Oregon, etc. It's going to be super weird for them being at the NW/Iowa game with over half the people being Hawk fans in a brand new stadium.
I've been to several NW games at Ryan Field and it feels like a high school contest. Most people aren't paying attention and you can hear coaches, players, etc. because it's so quiet. If you watch the broadcasts you'll hear that all the loudest cheering is from the visitors which is just going to be even louder now with everything compacted like that. I mean, it's kinda cool I guess for the visitors but no way would I want that thing if I was NW just because nobody cares about football. At the NW game this year there were barely any NW fans considering how close Chicago is, and everyone seemed to be 70+ years old.
Why spend almost a billion dollars on a tiny little stadium that's going to be so underutilized after the first year novelty wears off?
35,000? Carver holds 15,000 for chrissakes. I know they don't get the attendance to support a real B1G stadium, but holy cow.
Memorial Stadium is Kinnick West now, maybe we can make Ryan Stadium Kinnick East?
