They've got something coming to them alright. Go Grizzlies/Golden Eagles!!!
I think he is trying to call for a 30 second timeout there
You mean this?
I honestly don't understand all of the hate towards Alford. He did a great job this year in a very tough conference, and his team deserves everything they have coming to them.
And hopefully that includes a last second defeat a la their conference tournament game vs SDSU; BTW the Mountain West is not that tough.
I thought it was a stupid move for a coach to try to one up a player. (Shada is right, this was after an Iowa dunk and MSU called timeout - Thomas did the flex as well). Some people call it being competitive. I think he shows a bit of arrogance that needs to be held back when you are the coach (my opinion).Say what you want...I thought that was f'n awesome. If you have hatred for someone you can find anything to hate on them about...but at the time that happened...those who either like Alford or were neutral on him and were Hawkeye fans were loving it.
Who cares. He was given what, 8 or 9 years here to win, and he didn't. Glad he is gone. The Boy Wonder wouldn't have done much better these last three years.
I know I'll be executed for this on this board but I'm cheering for New Mexico. I hated the fans that ran him off then, and I hate them now. Us bringing in Lick instead of Stan Heath also frustrated me. I enjoy watching all the Alford haters stew in misery, b/c at the end of the day Alford was a solid coach and learning on the job. He would've taken Iowa to the next level and we pushed him out, just sad. Watch his games, he changed zones at the right time, went man to man, the difference b/w new Alford and late Iowa Alford is he learned how to coach/call a game on D. Let the hate fest for me begin.
I don't hate you for saying this. I do think you are giving SA too much credit. Craig Neal did almost all the in game coaching. I remember plenty of times down the stretch of tight games when Neal would be in the huddle and Alford was hanging out outside the huddle with the bench players. As for me hating Alford, I supported him until the day he trashed Iowa on the way out the door. At that point, I gave him the double bird and haven't forgiven him since. I probably never will. At this point, I agree with Chris Hassel. "Steve Alford is a ******."
My thought is... Can you blame him for being frustrated with Iowa fans. He had just taken a team with no NBA talent to the tourney as a 3 seed. And sure there was a late game collapse in the tournament but you have to see the forest for the trees. He had the ability to recruit (albeit Pearl is proving he is even better here), and I'm willing to be patient if there is progress. I remember going to Iowa football games in 1999 and while most were frustrated b/c sucked, I pointed out the how well we game planned and if we had the talent to match the coaching we'd be a top program, that's how I felt about Iowa bball at the end of Alford it was tantamount to shoving Ferentz out the door in 1999
Get over it people... we need to stop acting like the prom queen that gained 75 lbs and is jealous of everyone.

How did that one sit with everyone..
#3 Seed for New Mexico
