New high school weight classes?

What is wrong with the way it is now? It's not like they are adding or losing a weight and there are still plenty of kids that only weight 103 as freshman anyway.

When I was in high school we had 2 weight classes before 112, they were 98 and 105.

Kids are going to cut weight no matter what weights you have. Instead of being comfortable at 145, they will cut to 142 and so on...I understand the point but trying to fix something with an identical problem wont work.

Look at our current system, from 125 - 145 you don't see many forfits in these 5 weight classes. A few of the proposed lineups have 4 weight classes in that same range.

I do like the fact though they add a weight in the top.

I think they should use college weights, then add 2 or 3 weightclass below 125, and add a 220.

I would like to see a weight in between 215 and HWT. I think there are a lot of kids sitting right in the lower HWT region who never really get to their potential because they are pushing around a lot of extra weight on the mat. And those kids would be a nice fit for HWT in college after they bulk up.

Do you really enjoy watching 215 and HWT in high school most of the time?? 215 might be the worst weight there is at the high school level and how many of those kids are really that good and how many are going to do anything in college. Do you really want to add another class just like those?? I'm not trying to attack you or anything but looking for an honest opinion. I definitely don't want another weight up top.

I kind of like the weights the way that they are right now but if anything they could maybe spread out the lower weighs just a touch and maybe create another weight in between 152-160-171-189 as those are pretty spread out with only 4 weights for 37 pounds. Believe me I know as I was in between those weights in high school...

O no I dont want another heavy weight, I was just throwing that out there. I think the weights now are fine and see no reason why they should change them. Just saying out of the very limited reasons there could be, the heavy weights seem like they could be the most open.

Wow, I'm grateful to have wrestled before these new weight classes went into effect "to protect wrestlers from cutting too much weight". Wrestling was a big part of my life during high school and it contributed to the success I've had in life. I wrestled the 98lb weight class and weighed 90lbs as a freshman (I also played football as a freshman, but quit after 9th grade because the opponents were getting too huge!) and wrestled 105 as a senior. I never had a realistic chance to wrestle competitively in college due to my small stature (that assumes I was good enough in the first place) and today I only weigh 125lbs. I imagine there are lots of small but athletic potential wrestlers that will never get a realistic chance to compete as the min weights keep increasing. And unfortunately there are few alternatives since many sports (basketball, football) require larger size to do well. I realize I'm at the far end of the spectrum size wise, but I find it regrettable that the goal is to make all the weight classes equal in numbers of participation while singling out young men who have small parents. I think this goes against the spirit of what high school wrestling teaches...
