New Foorball Commit??

I wasnt saying it was. Just stating that He is the only in-state recruit currently holding an Iowa offer per scout. John implied that since its early n the process it more than likely is in-state.

wasn't saying that you were saying that it was what you were saying. :)

I'm tired of reading this. I'm going to quit reading this thread and wait for 8 people to start threads when another site publishes the name. Good day.

I was going to take a chance and guess early, but I'm not sure we'd have to wait so long to hear about a preferred walk-on, so I think I'll wait...

My work here is finished...good day.

Hmmmmm? This is so early. Last year there was one of these that lingered for a while, but we narrowed it down to a few. This time it seems a total mystery.

When it's this early u can usually look in state first

The "usual suspects" are:

- in-state talent
- guys who have family or coaches who are particularly close to the Iowa coaches
- recruits at positions of particular "great need"

Right now the list of in-state guys isn't very long (Darboh) and it would be a bit of a surprise if he were to commit so early.

I haven't heard too many stories yet about current prospects who have fairly close connections to our coaching staff ... so I can't yet really speculate about this group of "usual suspects."

Lastly, with regard to areas of particular need, I cannot help but feel that Iowa didn't have as much success recruiting at WR as we were hoping/intending. Thus, I'm inclined to believe that WR-recruiting will remain a priority for the Hawks in the 2012 class. Given how our depth at DT has seemingly gotten "cleared out" a bit, I would probably also assert that DL-recruiting will continue to be a bit of a priority. Not only does Iowa have 3 upperclassmen DTs now and has lost 2 underclassmen DTs in the past year (Hopkins and Ferg) ... but we also only successfully recruited 1 DT in the 2011 class. Also, unless if Iowa successfully converts some our LBs over to DE ... we also whiffed on a few of our "speed" rush DE recruits.

John Raymon comes to mind.

John Raymon comes to mind.

Both Raymon and McMinn were taken as DEs ... however, Raymon has strongside DE written all over him in my book. McMinn could potentially be a speed rusher ... however, he also has a TON of physical development to do first.

Anyhow, Iowa was going VERY hard after athletic and fast DEs for the 2011 class ... and we would have, in all likelihood, taken 2 more to complement Raymon and McMinn. However, we missed on two of the other PA guys we were looking at (at DE) ... and there were several Florida DEs we would have loved to have landed too.

Lastly, don't forget that Hoch was a strongside DE guy that we almost landed in the 2010 class. Unfortunately, he bailed and opted to play with his bro at Mizzou. Anyhow, the fact that he decommitted was yet another DL-whiff that we've had to contend with.
