John Deere logo added to field at Kinnick Stadium

The University of Iowa Athletics Department revealed Thursday that the iconic John Deere logo has been added to the 25-yard line on the field.

My father-in-law worked at the JD plant there in Ankeny for over 30 years, that side of the family all have a JD t shirt.

So that's why they laid off so many people. So they could afford to pay for the privilege of putting that on the field. I'd be curious what that costs. And why now smack dab in the middle of the season? Those sort of things I would think would all be negotiated on in the off season so it'd be good to go day 1 throughout the yr.

I agree. My dad retired from Deere 25 yrs ago and it just ain't the same company it used to be.

That said, the logo looks really good on the TV.

Am I the only guy who is troubled with this? First of all, John Deere has laid off a bunch of workers these past couple of years, but they have plenty of money for this nonsense. Personally I am dead set against naming rights. What happens next? The Fancy Feast Stadium? Does the athletic department really need more and more $ (I would bet they'd answer yes). but where is the stopping point? I think Iowa had the reputation of being a respected institution. I hope that doesn't change.

I say you can't blame Beth Goetz for being creative in bringing in $$$ to the athletic program in this day and age of money talked and BS walks.

We've got a long ways to go to catch up to OSU, Oregon and the like.
