New Commit - Parker Hesse

We were going after Lee as hard as we could and were getting really close. Some insiders thought he would end up a Hawk but who knows. He said that Iowa just stopped contacting him.
Are these the insiders who thought that rafe peavey was committing to iowa?

How many guys like this became career 2nd stringers? Not saying this kid sucks at all I just like Lee and Gates better. I totally trust Kirk though, I just don't like how he is a project. The other two could come in earlier and have a chance to play.

I totally trust Kirk, other than the part where I said things in this very thread such as "Mistake imo by the staff."

Kirk has said he expects to bring in "about 20".

i was listening to his wednesday night call in show 2/3 weeks back when he said this. who knows, but that can certainly change - and i would assume it would change higher, if anything. i.e. academic casualty, someone quits, early draft that was unexpected, etc.

Look if there is one thing this staff can do it is evaluate talent, LB, OL, DL and particularly with DB's. Think back about those diamonds in the rough, the gym rats; in the defensive backfield.

Adam Shada
Greg Castillo
Tanner Miller

These weren't simply headcoach favorites but genuine genetically engineered defensive backs with a knack for finding the football.

How about Greenwood, Sash, and Considine? Were those guys highly recruited?

Some of the big secondary recruits have not panned out, some of them have. Some of the unheralded guys have not panned out, some of them have.

There were some others as well:
Amari Spievey
Bradley Flecther
Charles Godfrey
Micah Hyde

So basically we have listed 7 2* DB. Over half of them made/making money in the NFL. The other 3 were multiple year starters, that you obviously don't find up to snuff. Either way, I think the staff has proven that when they offer a 2*, it is because they like what they see. No staff is ever perfect, they will miss on some as well.

Bob Sanders is a BIG one to forget Deano! Either way... par for the course for Malaise. Dude is not a Hawkeye fan.

My tongue in cheek jester was more aimed at cornfield DB's we have recruited.

Let's call a spade a spade. Adam Shada was crap, and who was it Brad Fletcher that sat behind him and only started his senior year? You chuggers believe Shada looked better in practice than Fletcher did?

I really do believe Kirk has an eye for talent at the defensive and offensive line positions and at linebacker. He absolutely blows at recruiting and developing WR's.

Can't disagree with you about the WR position, as facts back your assertion. Facts also back the assertion that we are very good at finding OL, TE, DL, LB, and DB......we are hit or miss at the QB and RB positions, some good, some not so good.

while I agree that WR recruiting has not been good or average even, to be fair the top two statistical leaders in receptions, rec yards, TDs both played for Ferentz and played QB in HS (DJK, McNutt). Heck McNutt played QB for Iowa for at least a yr. So they certainly developed. Iowa has historically never done well recruiting WRs. Look no further than the NFL draft history.

Ahhh and how do you know how this kid is going to turn out all mighty one? Please share your infinite knowledge with all of us peons. Obviously you know more than Kirk and Co. when it comes to spotting talent.
Is 6'3" and 205LBS. Need more?

Hey, if there was a demand from talented high school WRs to earnestly learn how to block downfield, KF would be the A1, number 1 recruiter of WR talent. Since there isn't..... KF doesn't get them.

This kid is not a mid to high 3-star.... no way, no how.
These guys think you are onto something:

Pat Angerer 6'1" 200LBS

Anthony Hitchens 6'1" and 195LBS

Christian Kirksey 6'2" and 200LBS

I was replying to JCinthePowerI's post and DP5555's retort to JC's post. Maybe with strength training and other he may be as good as the ones you listed.. But, no, Hesse's not a 3 star high schooler.. no way.

The defensive backfield has been the most efficient unit in turning low ranked recruits into good to great college football players (and NFL players). Anyone who rags on that area is a moron.

Then why did Adam "The Glove" Shada start over Brad Fletcher?

Then why was Greg Castillo, who was from New Jersey, used as an example.

And why didnt you use Derek Pagel, who was from Nashua, Iowa or Sean Considine, who was brom Byron, Illinois I believe in your example?
