Nebraska wants to re-join the Big 12 conference

Yes, it is. I'm not saying Iowa City is so wonderful, but Lincoln is a dump. Been there way more times than I wanted.

You're entitled to your opinion, biased as it may be.

But the recruits, by and large don't share your opinion.

The University facilities are second to none, the tradition and fan support is as strong as anywhere(although less than the peak). Recruiting remains very strong. Riley is doing well in that regard, especially from the West coas, and winning will further help.

That said, Lincoln as a whole, isn't very good as college towns go. It's those things above that has recruits interested, along with a statewide public that views the football team as diety. They have no competition in state at all, that helps a lot.

I hate to admit it, but nebbys brand is still strong...not near what is was in the 70's to 90's, but still strong. Given the record last year, its nothing short of a great job from Riley and his staff what he is doing in recruiting.

I live in Omaha, so I get more nebby info than I want. 9 wins a year under Riley will go over a lot better than under Bo.

I still would have liked a few more down years to take some of the entitled fans down a couple more pegs.

nebby has looked solid, not great, but solid. Whereas Iowa has been just, well, bad.

Acceptance requirements aren't hard to look up. Iowa and Nebby are pretty similar. By sheer volume of funding, USDA research is pretty substantial and Iowa doesn't get that money.

Research is pretty political and money related anyway. There is not a lot of unbiased research being done a the university level anymore anyway. Was personally a part of a million dollar research study mostly publicly funded. The results went against what the private donors wanted to see and the study wasn't published. Happens a lot.

Again, the Big isn't going to kick out Nebby without going after places like Iowa and MSU. Iowa does have a benefit by homing a medical school. A lot of engineering research goes on. Neither school is a major engineering player compared to a lot of Big schools.

Many Big schools pretty much one needs to be in the top 10% of high school graduates or higher to get in and an ACT of 26 or higher and much higher in professional programs. Not so at the bottom tier of the Big. Iowa, MSU, and Nebby are in that bottom. Sorry...

One problem with your assertion about enrollment requirements is that such decisions are made by Boards of Regents, or the like. Iowa has a long history as a tax supported entity of favoritism toward Iowa residents. As to USDA...would ISU not be the recipient of those funds? Nebbie and MSU are land grant colleges, read schools of agriculture. Most of the ratings I have seen are related to specific grad programs. The input data on general ratings is pretty nebulous. I guess, in short, I don't think there is much to support your argument. I do not mean to be critical...I just don't have much faith in the ratings we see published.

I have relatives in Lincoln and I personally love it there for the 4th of July because fire works are legal for a few days. It's a great college town with excellent golf courses all around.

Having worked in system I don't have any faith in it at all. All I was saying that if Nebby was not wanted, it would have nothing to do with scholarship and research.

Anyone who thinks Missouri was excluded because of such is also wrong. It was money. Missouri has a very small loyal football fan base due to pros and a generally mediocre product and garnering coverage in St. Louis wouldn't build much over what they already had.

That pretty much sums it up.

Except that Lincoln household income is about 10% higher than Iowa City even though it s 3-4 times bigger.

Its also the state capital, and about a 5th of the population works in Omaha. Household income average of smaller college towns is typically low. Not sure any of this really matters though, regarding Lincoln being kind of crappy.

Nebby may want to go to the 12. They would probably be able to win the new Big 12 North and make themselves look better so when the Big 12 does implode they might be able to go to the Pac-12 where they could improve their brand.

Just like Penn St. found out they can't win as consistently as where they were before. For all the media's talk about how the Big 10 has been down forever they seem to prove otherwise.

Why would NU want to rejoin the Big 12? It's best days are behind the Big12. Their heyday has come and gone. The TV share that NU would get tn the B12 wouldn't come close to what they would get in the B10. Money talks, academics walks.
this. they're not leaving.

Who cares about research and standards.

We're talking about eyeballs and football!!!
