Nebraska sure is getting enough mention on Big Ten Network about being in "4th Place"

Re: Nebraska sure is getting enough mention on Big Ten Network about being in "4th Pl

Our Omaha World Herald guy here has them 4th in the power raankings and us 5th. We have a higher RPI, same conference record with a win vs them, and a better overall record.

Before Basabe got sick and Iowa lost three games, I saw that Iowa was rated as the #1 power ranking in the conference. If they were to play the conference games over again starting today, I doubt Michigan would win the conference. I think Iowa would still get into the NCAA tournament, but there are a couple of teams that have matured that won't make the tournament that probably should.

There is an old saying that goes like this: "Figures never lie, but liars always figure". You can take numbers and move them around until they say what you want them to say.

Re: Nebraska sure is getting enough mention on Big Ten Network about being in "4th Pl

Belien for COY, not close.

A middle of the pack coach of a team that is a long shot still to make the Dance should not be COY.
Hell, then you could say Pitino should be in the talk as well, MN in the same boat.

Why is it such big gap for COY? Michigan was in the championship game last year and are expected to be contending for the big ten title every year. Nebraska has been at the bottom of the big ten since they joined. It is pretty impressive what Nebraska has done this year even with having an easier conference schedule. Nebraska has a quality coach whether you want to admit it or not.

Michigan also lost 3/5ths of that team for this year (2 guys to the NBA and 1 guy injured). In addition, I don't know about "expected to be contending every year". If I heard right, Michigan's last outright regular season title was in 1986.

No one is disputing that Miles is a good coach. But when your "one plays" are Iowa, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Minnesota (3 of which are in the Top 4) and you're feasting on the bottom half of the league, it's not quite as impressive, in my mind, as the job Belein has done with his team.

Re: Nebraska sure is getting enough mention on Big Ten Network about being in "4th Pl

All 3 of Michigan's conference losses have been by double digits...with far more talent than Nebraska has on their roster IMO. I like Beilein...and have no problem with him winning it. However, it's not a slam dunk and Miles should be considered...at this point.

There are still games to be played. If Nebraska wins their last 2 the it's Miles without a doubt IMO. If Michigan wins their last 2 games and Nebraska loses another game then I would give it to Beilein.

Side Note - Going into the season I thought Stauskas was the best player on Michigan's roster.

I thought so also. One could see last season that he was more than a three point shooter. He is a heady player and has proved it this season with his passing and driving to the rim. We were fortunate to hold him down. He couldn't score against us. We played outstanding D on him trying to deny him the ball and it worked. After other teams did the same thing and he had a couple of off games, a slump if you will. Now he is back and a force and in my opinion a solid candidate for player of the year. Harris is another. We have to control him. The best way is to keep the ball away from him which will be difficult because MSU is such a fast team, and if they are on they are an exceptional transition team. We must slow them down and not get into an transition game with them the entire game. They have been doing it for years and look like a pro team sometimes over the years. They have had two outstanding games this season beating Kentucky and at Purdue, but have been not the MSU team of the past in many games this year. Still win though. This is our best chance of winning at EL in a long time.....

They just won the Big Ten Conference, eliminating the Spartans from contention which might work well for us perhaps causing MSU to lose a bit of incentive, conference championship tie eliminated.....

We wiil need every advantage however slight it may be.....

Top teams still losing, Syracuse who looked like a National Champion just lost it's fourth out of the last five games. Love it.....

Iowa State just lost at Baylor, normally I want ISU to win when not playing the Hawks but we are in contention for seeding with them among the other teams.....

Creighton who looked like at least Sweet Sixteen material if not higher just lost at Georgetown.....

Want to see the teams ahead of the Hawks drop like shotgun shot flies.....

I actually liked Dakich tonight except when he mentioned that Craft was the Big player of the decade.....

Did he seriously say that? Holy Crap....just gross.

Craft is a good player...but good Lord...he's not even in the top 25 players for B1G player of the decade.

He actually said it. Didn't even have him on his Big Ten first team.....

Word is he sent Craft Flowers and Candy with the card on Saint Valentine's Day.....

Okay, so all the talk about Miles vs. Belien. Let me ask this question: Who in Michigan's roster would scared you heading into the season, throw out McGary because of injury, what is left. One guy who can shoot, Stauskas, anyone else show anything that scares you? Many on this board said UM is overrated at #10 to start the season and I scoffed at you, they just won the BIG outright, without the National POY, a 1st round draft pick and had they won the NC the Finals MOP. They had Stauskas and GR3 as their best players returning...where was Stauskas on preseason lists? Should he be POY, or should that too go to Pettaway, just asking? I give a ton of credit to Miles, he has had a great season, taken advantage of their schedule and haven't lost games they shouldn't have and capitalized on some nice wins. Nobody was talking about UM, it was all MSU and Wisconsin at the beginning of the year, where are they today, not in 1st. Let Miles have another good year against a crazy schedule and we'll see, if he wins COY this season all it does is put a target on his back when they struggle next season, if they indeed do. It is the beginning of walking the plank, it is what it is at a school like Nebraska, that is their history today and if can change it, more power to him.

Not one single person had wisc in the top 3 on this board.

MSU
OSU
IOWA
MICH
WISC

That is what I seem to remember.

Re: Nebraska sure is getting enough mention on Big Ten Network about being in "4th Pl

We need Indiana to beat Ohio State today at Bloomington. Wonder if they will, make the same mistake a lot of teams make going gung ho against the Hawks and being fatigued against the next team. Like the severe beatdown MSU gave us three years ago. They were flying high playing ThugBall and lost the next game at NW.

Don't forget MSU lost to GTown right after beating us this year.

They really spend a lot of energy and emotion playing the Hawks.....

Thanks for that info....

I'll bite....name the power house roster that Nebraska has. Can you even name 3 starters on their team without looking it up?

Contending for a title every year and winning are two different things. I haven't researched it but I would guess Michigan has had a first round bye in the conference tourney more years than they have played in the opening round. Both programs have underrated coaches and will be scary in the future. Either coach deserves for COY at this point. Hopefully next year it will go to Fran

Way to miss the point. When McGary got hurt the thought was UM is done because they don't have depth to replace him. All they have done is become a really good team that battles night in and night out. They have came back from deficits and won games, they have played in close games and won. UM has mental toughness that has brought them to this point. So does UM have more talent than MSU, OSU and Wisconsin? They won the conference outright.

If you want to go here then go here. You can't just post what supports your opinion. You keep referencing what Michigan lost.

Here's the rest of the story for those following along. Nebraska lost their leading scorer from last year Dylan Talley...averaged 13.7 per game. Nebraska lost their #3 scorer from last year Brandon Ubel...averaged 11.5 per game. They also lost their 6th leading scorer Andre Almeida...averaged 4.6 per game.

Michigan was 12-6 last year and is going to finish in the top half of the B1G pretty much every year...probably 15-3 this year. Nebraska was 5-13 last year...between 9-9 and 11-7 this year. Both teams lost important players from last year but Michigan definitely has the deeper talent pool on their roster and in their state for recruiting, more tradition, etc.

Michigan one plays last year: Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota and Wisconsin
Michigan one plays this year: PSU, OSU, IU and NU.

Michigan had a harder schedule this year than last.

Nebraska one plays last year: Michigan, Purdue, NU and Indiana.
Nebraska one plays this year: Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and MSU.

Nebraska has a much easier schedule this year than last.
