Nebraska sure is getting enough mention on Big Ten Network about being in "4th Place"

Re: Nebraska sure is getting enough mention on Big Ten Network about being in "4th Pl

If I'm reading the standings right, if Iowa wins out and Michigan State loses to Ohio State, then Iowa will get the 3 seed in the BTT. That is best case scenario as obviously Wisconsin has the tiebreaker on Iowa.

No matter what, it seems destined for the Hawkeyes to play either Nebraska or OSU in the quarterfinal round.

Re: Nebraska sure is getting enough mention on Big Ten Network about being in "4th Pl

They were talking about how Tim Miles is COY...I don't understand why that guy at UM wouldn't be the COY hands down.

Mostly because were just a couple games from the end of the season and NEBRASKA is in contention for a first round bye in the BTT. Beilein is deserving, too. But there is no hands down favorite for COY. There won't be much reason for complaint whether they pick Beilein's or Miles.

Re: Nebraska sure is getting enough mention on Big Ten Network about being in "4th Pl

Nebraska is just a fun team to like because Nebraska basketball has never done anything, ever. At the end of the day we're still much, much better than the Huskers.

You do realize that if Nebraska gets good at basketball then we will have to put up with their trolls for BOTH football and basketball seasons? They can stay at the bottom of the standings for all I care.

Re: Nebraska sure is getting enough mention on Big Ten Network about being in "4th Pl

NE only getting headlines cause they have stunk so bad in, well, their entire history of college basketball.

Next year will be interesting. Nebraska doesn't lose much. How will Miles do with that dreaded word "expectations" hanging over him? It's easier to be the underdog IMO.

How is that much different that Iowa a couple of years ago, but they didn't close the season?

I get they are a feel good story, but it is also like PSU the year they made the NCAA...move along, nothing to see here.

Neither Iowa nor Penn State, in the years you referenced, were in serious contention for a first round bye in the conference tournament with just a couple games to play. Iowa was 7-8 in B1G play with three games left in 2011-12. So was PSU in 2010-11.

Nebraska is already guaranteed at least a .500 record in the conference and has two winnable games remaining. I guess I really don't get why you seem to think it's laughable that Miles is one of the top two contenders for COY. He absolutely deserves it.

But it all depends on these last 2 games. Playing @ Indiana and then finishing at home against Wisconsin are 2 tough games. I think they need to win both to get in, if they split then they have work to do in the BTT. They could finish with a better record than Iowa did last season and still not make the tournament. If they get in Miles is probably the COY, otherwise I think it belongs to Beilein.

Why would he deserve it? Because he won at Michigan State?

Look, have they exceeded preseason expectations? Sure. But they've also been absolutely DRILLED in most of their losses. Lost by 31 to OSU. Lost by 29 to Michigan. Lost by double digits to both us and Illinois.

They've made a living feeding off the bottom half of the B1G. So good for them for taking advantage of an easy schedule.

But to say that he's done a better job than Belein who's taken a team that lost 2 guys to the NBA and their best player to a back injury before the conference season started and will likely win an outright conference title is insane. Or to say he's done a better job than Bo Ryan who's taken a team that many left for dead and will likely finish in 2nd all alone AGAIN is insane as well.

Nebraska's had a nice little season, but the hype for them has gone beyond ridiculous.

This exactly. Nebraska's one plays this season were Iowa, MSU, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Re: Nebraska sure is getting enough mention on Big Ten Network about being in "4th Pl

Belien for COY, not close.

A middle of the pack coach of a team that is a long shot still to make the Dance should not be COY.
Hell, then you could say Pitino should be in the talk as well, MN in the same boat.

All 3 of Michigan's conference losses have been by double digits...with far more talent than Nebraska has on their roster IMO. I like Beilein...and have no problem with him winning it. However, it's not a slam dunk and Miles should be considered...at this point.

There are still games to be played. If Nebraska wins their last 2 the it's Miles without a doubt IMO. If Michigan wins their last 2 games and Nebraska loses another game then I would give it to Beilein.

Side Note - Going into the season I thought Stauskas was the best player on Michigan's roster.

Win out and they do no worse than a tie for 4th and are a lock for the NCAA. If this happens I think Miles should win it and expect the vote to be very close between Beilien and Miles.

I'm calling BS on this. Point me to a post where you claimed Stauskas was going to be the best player on Michigan's roster.

NO ONE in college basketball thought that. Not given the fact that McGary was coming back with all the accolades he had received. Stauskas was looked at as a shooter, plain and simple. No one outside of the Michigan program knew the kid had the skill set he's displayed this year.

I could care less what you think. I don't post my every thought on Hawkeye Nation. There may very well be a post where I said this but I'm not digging back to the fall to find it...not even sure I posted it but that's what I thought. However, you can easily find countless posts where I say McGary is overrated.

If you actually thought he was only a shooter then you don't watch much basketball. He had a great first step last year and had some powerful dunks when he opted to drive to the basket...open lane.

I also find it interesting you ignore the actual substance of my post. I know you want to be right all of the time but you're having a very bad day...lots of misinformed posts in multiple threads.

Re: Nebraska sure is getting enough mention on Big Ten Network about being in "4th Pl

Its easy coverage for the media to build up the Nebraska success. They need something to talk bout. Nebraska isn't going to win their last two games.

Point one out tough guy....from the poster trying to compare Michigan's 3 losses in conference play to Nebraska's losses. When Michigan has a beat down of 30 points, then we can compare. But it's laughable you're trying to make the case against the team that's going to win the B1G outright vs a team that's had the easiest conference schedule of any team in the conference.

And my worst day is still better than your best day.

Re: Nebraska sure is getting enough mention on Big Ten Network about being in "4th Pl

Our Omaha World Herald guy here has them 4th in the power raankings and us 5th. We have a higher RPI, same conference record with a win vs them, and a better overall record.
