Jan is in over her head. From x's and o's to subs, to evaluation of talent. This keeps up Addy enters the portal, along with 2 freshman. Shit show

Like you said many times this year, Duke - They're gonna be good but a lot of freshman growing pains. That definitely includes Jan!
She's smart and knows the game but is really overthinking things and chasing her tail for something that works. Making a lot of dumb personnel choices in meantime and it's now too late. Team psyche is destroyed.
IF there is to be any silver lining this year, it's gotta come thru simplification, focus on the scorers (Hannah and Lucy) more pt for the frosh (did Ava even play?), fine tune positional roles and expectations, quicker timeouts for teaching moments and build for the next 3 years. The have potential to be special if she doesn't lose them this year.

Guyton needs to be starting. Like now.
Yes, she missed the layup but she rushed her release because she knew she was out of time.
No one else on that team could have driven and turned the corner like she did.
Jan struggles like Fran in situational basketball.
Fran under coaches and ends games with timeouts in his pocket. Frustrating as hell. Even though Jan has assisted for decades, it is much different when in the spotlight. Tonight she had a strange mix of over AND under coaching. She panicked and grasped with some head scratching substitutions at the end. Wasn’t aware of the foul situation? Should have been disrupting their flow especially that freshman.
There is hope for her, but then again Fran has never gotten better.

Haven’t read any of the comments cause I just finished watching the game myself. Iowa lost this game at the FT line. Game should’ve never went to OT. Two things:
Hannah will never go back to the 4 and guyton should be starting.

Hope not to point of losing people but now is time to circle wagons on the roster and get talent on the floor. Can not squander such a quality roster. Next year, Iowa will have 9 top 100 players at multiple positions
PG - Guyton, Stremlow
Combo G - Deal
SG - McCabe
SF - Houston
F - Mallegni
Post - Hannah, Heiden, Hays
That's too many good players to be losing auch winnable games. Let em play.
What's worse about last night is she had started her a couple games ago then took her back out for Kylie... It's mind boggling.
Folks are gonna lay this on the FT shooting and frankly yeah that's it that's all. Lucy inexplicably missed a bunch. Her shot has a lot of moving parts to it and it's tough to stay consistent with I suppose. But she's gotta be an 80% plus FT shooter no if ands or butts. Others missed FTs too though and it literally only woulda took 1 more in regulation.
But that doesn't absolve Jan. She's clearly learning on the job and just experimenting out there. There's no plan of attack with any confidence with what she's doing with her lineups. Ava didn't play at all and it seemed like O'grady didn't play much. I thought they wanted to get away from playing Stuelke at the 5 so much yet that's exactly what they did most of the game.
I can accept losing some games with a group that's rebuilding. But not like this. Kylie can't be starting and playing so much she just can't. McCabe is a role player that can't be asked to play 20 plus mins either unless she's just on fire which tonight she wasn't. I think she played 25 and her lack of defense just kills them.
At this point this team is a borderline bubble team I would think. At this point I'd be playing the 4 freshmen significantly more and sitting Sydney, Kylie and McCabe a lot more. It's pretty inexcusable to not have played Ava at all. Unless she's hurt and I missed it.

I feel for Jan in this. The FR are extremely talented, but aside from Guyton, very raw. The JRs and SRs, up until the last 2 weeks, were playing well against inferior opponents.
I think it's time to fill the rotation with Hannah and Lucy with the FR and let them sink or swim and rotate in upperclassmen some minutes.

My two/three cents...
There were perhaps a few factors that resulted to a loss against the huskers
They are an experienced team who are very good and well coached
They were a tough out with Caitlin on the floor
Jan is a first-year head coach who is experiencing the difficulty of playing in the
Big Ten and needs more seasoning
Lucy probably was affected by the Vicious forearm Slam to the face in the Tennessee
game, that would have knocked a man OUT
All that said, I have difficulty understanding why Hannah did not play significant minutes
in the OT, WTF
I Really have difficulty understanding Not calling a TO when they were making their comeback
You literally have to stop the momentum and give the players on the floor a chance to rest
Fran does the very same thing, as in the ISU game
Final thought: Why the F... did we miss all those free throws, one more FT in regulation
would have won the game
I would have Every one of the team members shooting free throw for 2/3 hours after
practice, at least 2/3 hours, until they fall to the floor in total exhaustion
