Nebraska Eating Their Own

Booing of Shada was beyond awful, but i think inside the stadium and outside the stadium is different. That is my point here.

I think you play for personal pride and for fun as well but it's not like the fans don't matter. Ricky isn't wearing all of those bracelets for his teammates.

He isn't wearing those bracelets for "the fans" either.

My point is, when you are in there, you don't worry about how fans will react to what you do. To torture an analogy, soilders don't storm out of a fox hole for freedom, they do it because of the guy sitting next to them in that foxhole.

It's one thing to proactively critique a player ... it's quite another concerning the crap that Niles Paul has had to put up from Nebby fans. Living in Lincoln, I find the abuse he's taking appalling. And, FYI, I recall Iowa fans loading it up on Stross too ... and, for the record, I found that inappropriate too.

Fans forget how hard these guys work. Besides, it's not like Paul was the only guys who had "issues" in the game. Kinnie and Burkhead also had pretty key drops too ...

Niles has been getting killed by the fans for 3 reasons:

1) he has a history of dropping the ball without reason, and it wasn't as if he muffed just 1 pass, he muffed more than 4 passes this game.

2) he stood up and claimed to be the leader of the team, even though he has had a couple of alcohol related incidents in which he screwed up.

3) just this week, he went wide receiver/diva by complaining (in the Omaha Weird Herald) about not getting the ball and how the team knows that he'll go up and get it.

BTW, to the people that say they are just kids, Niles is a 21 year old man. When you go to a high profile school and you perform badly, you are going to get scrutinized. I have no idea what was supposedly said, but some of this was brought on by him and his attitude.

I give Neb fans a lot of crap, but I do beleive that about 95% of their fanbase means well. They just have a huge fanbase, so running into an "annoying" Neb fan is easier to do.
The one thing I do wish.. this "best fans in the country" BS needs to go away.
Funny, because I believe it was Keith Jackson who said that Nebraska fans were the best in the county, not Nebraskans.

I have heard from numerous texa$$ fans who said that they were treated very well and had a great stay in Omaha and Lincoln, and we hate texa$$.

What kills me is..everyone knew they were overrated, except their fans. Pelini's record against quality opponents suck...even at home. Yet they didn't lose the game, they dropped passes, blah, blah, blah...just own the losses Nebraska just own them. Kinda like Texas owns your arses
You must be a total idiot. There were at least a few national pundits who had predicted that Nebraska would play in the BCS championship game or who said that they were the best team in the nation.

You need to wisen up and look at the bigger picture: If Nebraska comes to the Big 10 as the defending Big 12 (or National) champion, it would be a HUGE boost to a conference that the rest of the nation thinks is slow and soft.

People like you are why outsiders think that Iowans are uneducated rednecks.

Damnit, I was just going to say this (the bracelets, not the soldier analogy. Excellent analogy though). He wears those bracelets for special "fans", who are more like family than anything. He's not wearing a bracelet with my name on it. Those kids, and especially Jenna, are EXTREMELY important to him. People like us are not high on his priority list, when the metal meets the meat.

Deep down you know that 95% of the reason that national pundits were saying that is because of their cupcake schedule. Had they beaten an un-ranked Texas team at home, they would have walked through that joke of a schedule and had a one game season against OU for all the marbles in the B12 title game. They weren't saying it because they though UN was good, it's because of the way the schedule plays out.

Iowans are uneducated rednecks? I'll compare Iowa education against a Nebraska education any single day of the week. College or high school.

That was part of it, but not 95%. But say texa$$ (after NU) wins out because they finally get their stuff in order, they are as talented as anyone in the nation. OU goes undefeated. OSU and Mizzou are both undefeated and in the top 15. A&M is in shambles right now but has a ton of talent. KSU isn't as bad as orignially thought. Washington kicked USC's butt, and Idaho may make a bowl for the 2nd straight year. While not a murder's row, the schedule isn't as bad as some.

Part of it was how fast Nebraska looks, how well the DB's play, how good Martinez played, and how well the O-Line dominated against KSU.

I can't really comment on the quality of education in each state and I didn't say that, I said that outsiders say it. Outsiders say the same thing about Nebraskans, Kansans, Dakotans, etc. They think we are all basically uneducated rednecks.

On the contrary. I have been in the USAF for over 20 years and Iowans are known to be smart, hard working, tough individuals who work very well with others in a team. Same can be said for most of the midwest states. You get solid recruits from those locations. Many people have even questioned the ASVAB scores to be favorable to the midwest because they score much higher on the tests than any other region.
People have a common tendency to believe people that are not like them are kind of dumb. If a world class business man would go out to the sticks, I guarantee he would have much more than a few people thinking he was completely helpless. Same with a farmer going to a city for the first time. Look how Americans in general think if someone doesn't know English they are dumb!
A Badger fan says outsiders say we are uneducated rednecks? Yes... they say that about anyone that is not like them. What state don't people say that about? It is just a slam to make them feel better about themselves. I mean... even Kentucky people make fun of other states!

I hate it when "fans" do this. They're kids for god's sake. How would these "fans" feel if every time they made a mistake, people were there to taunt them and blame them for something that has no bearing on their lives.

That does happen to us, it's called marriage, parenthood, and work.

Give me a break! Niles Paul may have some "issues" but that doesn't change the fact that the young man busts his balls ... basically working the equivalent of a full-time job ... and contending with the duties of being a full-time student to boot. And his only payment in return is a free education ... and a whole hell of a lot of heckling from many Husker "fans."

The very points you provided still don't justify such treatment. Try again!

could be worse for the Husker. He could be in Afghanistan hoping he makes it home some day. That doesnt dismiss the fans from being jerks tho.

They are NOT kids. Guys the same age are being killed overseas in war fighting for our country and they are not kids. Guys the same age are getting married and starting families, so they are not kids. They are adults playing football in college. they are 19 to 23 years old for gosh sakes. I was in the Navy and had moved away from home and was on my own after high school. Daddy wasn't supporting me anymore and I was taking care of myself. I was not a kid...I might have been inexperienced but I was hardly a kid.

No the guy doesn't deserve comments like that because he had a bad day but let's face it, life is full of criticism and sometimes you just have to suck it up. If the fans hurt his feelings...oh well. Sometimes life just sucks and in this case, fans don't always pat you on the back and tell you how great you are!

I don't think KF would say those things, but I wouldn't have a problem with it if he did. He's sticking up for his players, something all coaches should do.

I have zero problem with these guys calling jackhole fans out for what they did. If you don't want to be treated like a D-Bag don't act like one.

I guess that is what I was trying to say, sort of. Outsiders will always make fun of people that are not like them.
